Nov 14th 2011 12:55PM Exactly Laurene! Enabling is crippling - ESPECIALLY to boys who have the innate instinct to go out and HUNT, not stoke the fire. It is gender-bending at the very best. It is emasculating. Let them be uncomfortable, let them struggle, not know, strive, work hard, get through it and yes, eventually succeed. Let them be adults. Do NOT infantilize them. That is the worst thing you can do. Don't force them out too soon. 21, after college is fine. But once they go out on their own, THEY STAY OUT ON THEIR OWN! Don't let your lonely empty nest sit there. Downsize, move to a condo, travel, live your own life. This will force them to live their own lives too. Don't get saddled with their mistakes and problems - trust them to figure things out for themselves. They can and they will and they will feel much better if they do it for themselves.

Rent a room, bum a couch, stay out on your own and get tougher, that is the whole deal. Do you know how many serial killers were living in mom's basement?! Probably took up the creepy "hobby" out of rage at mom or sheer boredom. What about that 28 year old kid who attacked his mom when she asked him if he wanted her to make him a sandwich...?! Get out of the house by 21 and STAY OUT!!!!

Aug 31st 2011 6:29PM The famous sandal...? I think the abuse he suffered from the sandal at the hands of his mother will come up in therapy and hold a key to a lot of these destructive choices. Parents STOP hitting your children please. Don't call it spanking or discipline. Real discipline means to not hit your kid even though that is the habit from what happened to you - make an new, evolved choice. Love them with kindness, not brutality. God bless him to stay sober one day at a time.

If they didn't want the paps to shoot their kids, they would do what Madonna does and wear the same outfit over and over so the story has no news appeal. But no, some pretend to be down to earth moms but are secretly styled by top stylists, together with their kids. Oh well, to each her own.
