Port Orange HOA Tells Residents Yard Statues Aren't Allowed {AOL Real Estate}
Apr 6th 2013 7:37AM The all powerful HOAs are petty despots. They decide what offends them from a gnome to a religious statue to our beatiful flag. This never ending list of new rules are just made to subjugate the homeowners to the HOA Board's will. This has made a handful of stodgy "know it alls" able to control other people's rights.
Most homeowners simply try to make their property "their own" by adding special artwork or patriotic memorabilia that has special meaning in their lives. However the local HOA's insist all they want is conformity. Why not they say, it makes the community more attractive if every home looks just like the house next door or a couple blocks away.
Each separate home should have the choice to put out what they please to make them singular as long as it's in good taste and not offensive. People who buy into these communities apparently are educated and financially secure, no nutcases (maybe one or two). It is every homeowner's wish to have their propert admired. Uniformity of dull drab houses street after street hardly fits the American dream.
A Message From the AOL.com Team {Portalblog}
Dec 21st 2012 8:28AM The only thing banning all firearms will do is stop Americans from having a means to defend theselves and their families. It's foolhardy to think that criminals will not be able to obtain guns and they will have the upper hand.
My opinion is to start going after the people/groups who illegaly sell guns and there should be strict regulations at gun shows. ATF should have a task force totally devoted to seeking out these illegal sellers and make it a felony with prison time when they are caught.
Our revered Constitution has been the foundation for our country since our inception and I believe it should not be tampered with, that's what amendments are for.
House of the Day: Live in a Kardashian 'Home,' Near Clooney {AOL Real Estate}
May 13th 2012 7:59AM It matters not how much we complain and demean the Kardashians, in a few weeks "E" will start airing "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and it will be a ratings hit. Not everyone watches the show because we like this greedy, self centered brood.
With the exception of Bruce Jenner and his two daughters Kaylee and Kendall, the Kardashian themselves are interesting to watch. Mama Bear Kris is always manipulating to get more money for her "girls" and goes to any means to hook them up. Of course Kourtney, being pregnant at the moment, is non-profit and Khloe being in Dallas and balking at Mama's efforts to set up opportunities for her, leaves just Princess Kim to carry the load.
Nothing daunts Missy Kim in public. But behind the scenes this show is hysterical with all the "poor me" "I have no time for myself" "the psoriasis" "the selfishness par exemplar", it's a ball watching this show, especially when the sisters get together.
If you haven't wasted your time watching it you don't know what you're missing. Back stabbing, betrayal, crocodile tears, false apologies, sisterly love (lol). Bruce Jennner being "whipped" as no man should ever be and Scott Didsik (Kourtney's husband) being treated like a court jester. Tune in -- it's a riot.
98-Year-Old's Birthday Surprise: Eviction Notice From Her Son {AOL Real Estate}
Feb 17th 2012 5:08PM This little ba***rd deserves to be horsewhipped and I'll bet his greedy wife is behind the whole thing. How can a son treat his 98 year old Mother like garbage to be discarded?
Nursing Home? I live in a senior/disabled building and once a person's independence is taken away from them and they leave their apartments forcibly, they pass away within a few months. What offer was he made on this house? Is any amount of money more valuable than the woman who gave him birth, was there for him his entire life?
He should be looked into for fraud for putting the house in his and his wife's name illegally and the house should be put back into his Mother's name. He and his wifey should be prosecuted and made to pay for their crime against a 98 year old.
She should then change her will and leave the house to her son Jack who visits her every day and sees to her needs while disgusting Peter hasn't visited her in 8 months. I hope he and his wife rot in HELL!!
Landlady's 'White Only' Sign Still Not OK, Commission Says {AOL Real Estate}
Jan 13th 2012 3:47PM First let me state that I am NOT a racist. I have a black grandaughter and black great grandaughter, a black niece, many black friends, etc. I am upfront with my views to everyone.
I have long been an opponent to various groups we have locally such as Black Businesswomans Association, Black Teachers Conference, Latino Men and Women For Single Parents, and many others. If there were a group, any group, stating White Association For ??????, there would be an immediate outcry of racism, and demand for the people involved to be punished in some way.
Why is this double standard allowed? It is wrong and, in my opinion, reverse discrimination. If this sign had read "Blacks Only", not a single voice would have been raised in outrage. It would have been said that it was this landlady's right to limit use of her pool to whomever she pleased.
This is why our society has, and always will have, the problems with racism. It is one sided, with the whites always being the racists and the blacks, and others, always exercising their civil rights. Until the double standards are removed, we will never have a blending of the white, black, latino, asian, and other cultures in the United States.
Meet Rat Island's New Big Cheese {AOL Real Estate}
Oct 5th 2011 7:57AM Hasn't that been a fantasy of everyone's at one time or another....to own your own private island, inaccessible except by boat. It kind of looks dismal in the pictures but it must have redeeming qualities to make it a haven for Alex Schibli and his family.
Alex Schibli and family....may you find peace, happiness and love on your "fantasy island"!
Boston Bans Soda on City Property {Slashfood}
Apr 9th 2011 11:02PM When will enough be enough? How much more will the government control our private lives? And how can you so called AMERICANS agree with what the government is doing to your fellow AMERICANS?
It's people like you who say you think it's a good idea what this mayor is doing in Boston who will be the first to cry foul when they ban something that you LOVE. Think about it. We the people of America have let the government get the upper hand. Sit down and make a list of all the things they have taken control of for OUR OWN GOOD.
Now consider all the things they will do next. They think we are too STUPID to decide for ourselves what is right and what is wrong......if they don't make the decisions for us we just don't have the intelligence to do the right thing for ourselves or for our families so..........................................................
Remember you will be their victim at some point!!
Is Justin Bieber Poised to Be the Next King of Pop? {AOL Music Blog}
Apr 9th 2011 10:40PM What an insult to Paris, Prince and Blanket, who are contemporaries of Justin Bieber, to be told that this flash in the pan little 17 year boy is now, or ever could be, in the same musical sphere as their beloved father.
Justin Beiber is a talented young man and has thousands of fans, young girls who will eventually grow up. When they do I'm afraid Justin will be left behind unless he picks up an older following in the meantime.
Michael Jackson's fan base grew with him as he grew and along the way he kept the old fans and with each decade gained new generations of fans who, to this day, still love, respect and long to hear his beautiful voice one more time. We miss him with our hearts and souls because he was a part of us that was torn away untimely and that pain will never leave.
Now you are telling us that this young man can fill the greatest entertainer of our times massive shoes and we aren't supposed to laugh at you and tell you that you are making a fool of yourself and of young Justin Beiber. Stop trying to make a name for yourself on this kid's back, you should be ashamed of yourself. I'm embarassed for you!
Robin Gibb Rushed to Hospital With Mystery Illness, Cancels Brazil Shows {Spinner}
Apr 5th 2011 7:07PM Robin -- You, Maurice and Barry were given beautifully blended voices and your music thrilled so many people over the years. When Andy was still with us and sang with you three the chemistry was magical
Andy and Maurice are harmonizing in Heaven now but they don't need you and Barry there yet, they're content as a duo.
Please do everything in your power to put your health before anything else so that we loving fans can be blessed to hear you and Barry combining those two awesome voices once again.
2011 ACM Awards Winners and Show Highlights {The Boot}
Apr 4th 2011 9:55AM "Country and Western" music no longer lives up to its' name or its' origins. Today's artists are more "rock" in their attitude, dress and, especially their videos.
Think back to the era of Lynn Anderson, Roy Clark, Patsy Cline, Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette you can name all the great ones as well as I can. Can you picture any of the women of that era performing in a video in a see-through negligee', or them wearing a top that hangs so low it shows 90% of their breasts? Or rolling around in bed with some guy they just met in a bar?
I stopped watching todays videos on CMT and GAC because they are getting as bad as MTV. Needless to say that I hardly trust the voting system at the various award shows. I might as well watch MTV since the differences have become almost indistinguishable.
It will only get worse so I'll continue to listen to my older tapes and LPs and remember when the women of country were the "Ladies" of Country and Western" music.
