My Body After Baby {Lemondrop}
Oct 29th 2008 4:52PM FWIW, I'm totally envious of your post-baby body Linda, and I think you could give many of these Hollywood moms a run for their money in the fitness department. I never looked that good pre-baby, but you've totally inspired me to get my ass in gear once I pop out little sucka #2 in a few weeks. Until then, bring on the Halloween candy!
Brooke Burke markets a product called Tauts (it's some sort of post-partum girdle) that she says helped her reclaim her tight belly. Unfortch it's only recommended for women who haven't have a c-section, although they may have changed that since I last looked (http://www.babooshbaby.com).
New Jersey requires flu vaccine {ParentDish}
Oct 19th 2008 4:17PM Another issue, which many people don't talk about, is that the traditional flu vaccine contains thimerosal (a mercury-based preservative that was taken out of ALL other childhood vaccines in 1999 b/c it was identified as a neurotoxin.
I think it is a huge mistake for any state to require a vaccination that could be potentially harmful to children's cognitive development.
Even the FDA recognizes this issue:
http://www.fda.gov/CBER/vaccine/thimerosal.htm
There is a non-thimerosal flu vaccine available, but depending on who administers the shot, it may be restricted to children under 6, or under 3. It also might not be available at all.
Nest Products: modern, sustainable and fun {ParentDish}
Dec 29th 2007 2:32PM Seriously? $54 for a step stool? You've got to be kidding me!
Let me when "environmentally sustainable" becomes affordable to us regular folks.
Christmas tree allergy? {ParentDish}
Dec 28th 2007 10:37AM I had my first bout of tree allergies this year--I almost couldn't take it! I'm pretty sure we had a Balsam fir, which smells great. Unfortunately, from what I've read, the aromatic trees are also the most allergenic.
Post-holiday deflation {ParentDish}
Dec 27th 2007 2:11PM Am I a grinch because I feel like taking down our tree on Christmas Day just after we've opened presents? For the girl's sake, I waited until yesterday and was SO happy to see it go. I'm always amazed at how happy de-christmas-ifying my home makes me feel, especially when only a few weeks earlier I couldn't wait to get those decorations up. I bore easily I think.
Nicole's kids call Katie "mom" {ParentDish}
Dec 20th 2007 10:08PM I agree. Weird that they call her mom. Although according to other interviews with Nicole, she doesn't spend all that much time with her kids, so it's no surprise that they'd gravitate towards Katie if she shows more interest in their lives.
Also, your quote "Tom understands the female bond." was taken out of context. Katie made that comment in an interview regarding her movie set friendships with with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton and was referring to Tom's understanding of that friendship because he has three sisters.
Signing up for school: The Letter {ParentDish}
Mar 16th 2007 5:22PM Boston does placement the same way. I understand if there aren't enough "slots" in the local school to support the number of kids from the local neighborhood. I also understand that it helps mix kids up so that the schools don't suffer for lack of economic and racial diversity. Hoevever, the placement process our two cities have created is overly bureaucratic and complicated. The fact that they take parents so far out of the loop in regards to their child's placement is also disheartening. And unfortunately, in the case of Boston, most of the schools aren't that good anyways, so it's like winning the lottery if your child happens to be placed in one of the upper echelon elementary schools.
Wouldn't you like to be a grupster, too? {ParentDish}
Mar 15th 2007 8:48PM I don't like minivans either. My mother is on her 5th one, and I think this is the cause of my aversion.
Reading that article gave me a headache though. I really dislike it when people try to label each other, and the name grupster makes me want to vomit. Labels can be so divisive and create dislike between people that would otherwise find they had a lot in common with each other. It's pretty lame if you ask me.
Do you give your children adult medications? {ParentDish}
Mar 15th 2007 5:03PM I would probably try other remedies before giving her an adult medication. I used Sea Bands during my pregnancy and they totally helped to quell nausea, and I've heard that they work well for motion sickness. There is also a similar bracelet called a Relief Band that is more expensive, but I've heard that it is more effective.
