High School Opts to Drop Fs From Transcripts, Some Say That's a Serious Fail {ParentDish}

Nov 17th 2010 11:10AM To everyone who is saying that this concept (which I fully support) means that kids will become lazy: You don't understand that some kids need more time to master a concept. I applaud the school district for enabling the students to take extra time and achieve mastery without the stigma of failing. Failure may motivate some students but the research is clear that it discourages most students and many give up.

78-Year-Old Arkansas Man Fights to Keep Pet Pig {Pawnation OLD}

May 15th 2010 9:17AM A pet pot bellied pig is NOT the same breed as a farm hog. To say they are the same is like saying a Pekingese and a Pit Bull are the same thing. According to Wikipedia, "Considerably smaller than standard American or European farm pigs, most adult pot-bellied pigs are about the size of a medium- or large-breed dog," All the city council needs to do is distinguish between a farm hog and a pot bellied pig. That should not be too hard as the pot bellied pig is about 200 lbs and a farm hog would be at least 4 times bigger.
On another note, Mr. Kallhoff needs to make sure he is policing his backyard daily to clean up the pig poop, that should help his relations with his neighbors.

Mother Dressed as Princess Kicked Out of Disneyland Paris {AOL Travel News}

Apr 21st 2010 6:37PM Can no one read? Granted the story was poorly written and Ms. Zay should take a few journalism classes.

Natasha wanted to celebrate her (Natasha's) birthday with her daughter. Natasha called Disney Paris and asked permission to wear the old wedding dress (not considered a costume). The Disney Representative told her that she could wear it. Later when they were standing in line a security guard told them that Disney had a blanket policy about adults not wearing costumes. The guard told her she would have to change, she and her daughter had to return to the hotel so the Mom could change, thus they lost time at the park and possibly had to pay for parking twice.

Disney does owe her an apology for the poorly trained employee who gave Natasha the wrong information. And for the record, I have seen weddings at Disney World in Orlando, the brides, bridesmaids, mothers of the bride and groom all were wearing "fancy" dresses. I guess the difference is that the bridal party paid a hefty fee for their Disney wedding...

For those who talk about not being able to ride in long dresses, I have gone to Disney several times in long sundresses and never had a problem.

Mother Dressed as Princess Kicked Out of Disneyland Paris {AOL Travel News}

Please re-read the story, it was poorly written but if you read closely, Natasha (the mother) called Disney and asked if she and her daughter could wear the costumes , they were told by the security guard who pulled them out of line that Disney had a blanket policy against adults wearing "fancy" dresses. The author needs to take a refresher course in reading comprehension and journalism as it takes more than one read through to understand the actual course of events.

And for the record, Disney allows ( or did last time I was there) weddings at Cinderella Castle, I have seen several and each and every bride was .... in a wedding dress. I guess they make an exception for those who pay the fee for having a wedding.

I think Natasha got a raw deal... from the nameless Disney rep she spoke to on the phone. I am sure, had she been told that only her daughter could dress up, that the incident would never have happened.

5 most tax-friendly states to live in {WalletPop}

Apr 14th 2010 9:28PM Cicero,
I can't take what you say too seriously when you used the wrong word and emphasized it. Perhaps your state's economy is going downhill due to illiteracy. Please get a dictionary and look up "except" versus "accept".

Free mocha drink at McDonald's every Wednesday {WalletPop}

Jan 25th 2010 11:36AM I will not eat at McDonalds until they drop the suit against Lauren McCluskey the 19 year old girl who started a charity event called McFest. In an age when too many teenagers (and adults too) think only of themselves; this 19 year was raising money for Special Olympics. She started it with a friend who's last name also started with Mc ... so McFest referred to their surnames not to McDonalds. The fact that McDonalds also contributes to Special Olympics makes this even more ridiculous.

'The Lovely Bones': An Adaptation That Dishonors the Book {Moviefone Blog}

Jan 17th 2010 3:21AM I read the book and can guarantee that if the rape was in the movie, I would never go see it.

There is another aspect to omitting the rape that no one has mentioned, I think it would be bordering on child abuse to require Saorise Ronin to act out the scene of a brutal rape and murder. I cannot fathom that anyone would want to put that young actress thru that kind of an experience.

And for those who say rape happens, yes it does and that is despicable, but using a rape scene to be "entertainment" would be almost as bad. This is a movie, while the book is very graphic in it's descriptions, a reader can choose to skim read, to keep visualizations to a minimum, to imagine it in a minimalist way or to read it in small segments in order to contain the horror... movie goers have fewer options.
I applaud Mr. Jackson for making a decision to protect not only younger viewers but the young actress.

Iron Chef Special Used Ringers, Not Veggies From The White House Garden {Politics Daily}

Jan 12th 2010 11:37PM I am dismayed at reading comments disparaging the White House and Mrs. Obama. Nowhere did I read that Mrs. Obama knew that the White House vegetables would not be used and even if she did know, she was still promotong a healthier way to eat. I say shame on the producers who obviously scripted in the misleading references to White House garden produce. I was happy to learn during the episode that the excess produce was donated and I am happy that this included the produce that was picked by the Iron Chef cast.
