Big-ticket Items -- Repair or Replace? {Shopping Articles Blog}

Apr 15th 2012 12:54PM I have replaced my dishwasher at 10 yrs. with the new Kenmore energy saver, top rated, super quiet model. I hate it. I am handwashing dishes now and dreading replacing other appliances with the short- lived, poor quality, technology wonders of today. Who designs this stuff? All I want is a dishwasher that can aim water so that all dishes come out clean, so I don't have to inspect and rewash each one. Energy-saver? I don't think so, at least not MY energy.

Obama's Refinance Plan Explained {AOL Real Estate}

Oct 29th 2011 3:04AM If they really wanted to help homeowners they would allow a no fee low interest rate adjustment, 30 yr. fixed rate. Obama didn't require the banks to do modifications; he left it optional. The banks are still laughing I'm sure. He says all the right things, but he never follows through. If he wants this country to survive, the middle class has to afford basic living, and that includes housing. I guess he can pile on the taxes until we can't afford anything and then we can apply for government welfare?

Mortgage Mod Hell: Trapped Between Lenders, Collectors {AOL Real Estate}

Sep 9th 2011 5:11PM Banks were making a short term interest only fortune on those loans. They would refi the house, people would use that money to make payments, and when that ran out, they would refi again. Good deal for the banks to mow through the equity in the housing boom. Of course, interest they paid to customers on bank accounts was practically zero. Then when the well ran dry, Obama's Making Home Affordable came out, not to protect home-owners, but to keep banks from having to foreclose and lose money. But the banks didn't have to approve that plan, when they could make more money creating their own Mods, which is what I got. They aren't going to give Mods to people who can keep up their payments, so defaulting is the only way to get on their list. I notified them I was going to default before I did and had all the paperwork in. They sat on it for 2 months and ruined my credit. Then they did a trial Mod for 2 months which also goes on the credit report as a default. Four months default. They then roll that money into the new loan so they are out nothing, but the ruined credit causes higher interest rates on cards, if they don't decrease your limit as well. The creditor calls came when my first default payment was still in the grace period. It was a nightmare, and the new Mod is calculated to take my last dime, but I am barely making it. This is a success story compared to all the others I've heard about. I wonder if they really believed I could make these payments because I had to be a genius to cut costs to this extreme. The "deal" I got was getting this underwater loan at current interest rates. They are still making money. Thanks Obama for allowing this to happen.

Tibi's Fall Footwear | Cats & Aliens {Stylelist}

Aug 14th 2011 4:28PM If people can afford to pay $375 for those it is obvious that there is a large segment of consumers who are not suffering in this economic crisis. There is also a large segment who have really bad taste. I bet they are made overseas as well.

The Perfect Day of Eating {That's Fit}

Apr 17th 2011 12:22PM Wow, people actually do this? It is the perfect day, perfect diet, unless you aren't a morning person. I prefer sipping wonderful coffee with my fav biscotti first thing. After I fully wake up then I think nutrition, calories, and I exercise at the end of the day when I am functional to avoid a heart attack.

Since I'm retired with various health issues the visual of staggering out of bed at 6:30 a.m., gagging down lemon, and invigorating myself with a morning jaunt still has me laughing. Guess I'm not the target audience here.

Does Your Bra Fit? Chances Are It Doesn't {Stylelist}

Apr 4th 2011 12:56PM I have to comment having been on a shopping marathon quest for an "older woman" bra that doesn't look like it has a dual purpose of being hitched up for plowing the back 40. I tried "fitters" who were young girls who automatically reached for these styles, because obviously nothing else could cover in their opinion. (Thanks, Nordstrom's for not training these girls) I have been using the same bras for an eternity because the alternative of spending $60. on a harness turned my stomach. OK, last month I discovered Vanity Fair 75371 age-defying lift bras on sale for 15.99 (reg. $32) at Macy's. They are feminine, lace & satin with two little rhinstones on the front. They have great on site reviews and I agree.

There is a formula for fitting that is band=rib cage measurement plus 5, you substract that from the breast measurement and those inches equal the cup size, but as we all know styles vary. This article could have mentioned this standard formula since it was all about that. I also found some no underwire styles that I am tempted to try next time. Basically, the industry seems to be offering a better selection.

Pet Obesity - Is Your Dog or Cat Too Fat? {Pawnation OLD}

Feb 22nd 2011 8:50PM The pet owners I know with obese pets are usually overweight themselves and keep feeding the animals every time they might be hungry, or they leave dry food out for free feeding. I can't believe they are making weight loss dogfood. Different energy level dogfood perhaps for animal lifestyles, but otherwise, look at the animal; if it looks fat feed it less, if it is thin feed it more. Works for me.

Former Smashing Pumpkins Bassist D'Arcy Jailed for Horses Run Amok {Spinner}

Feb 12th 2011 8:07AM She seems to have bigger issues than horses running amok, but in fairness, horses like to escape and can be quite skilled at it. In my town I carried a halter and lead in my trunk. Neighbors help catch horses here, and I've never heard of getting a ticket. The brahma bull next door used jump the fence and stand at our kitchen window. We just called the owners to come round him up. She needs to get out of Michigan; apparently neighbors terrorize too easily there.

Chinese Parent Amy Chua Talks Extreme Discipline and Parenting Regrets {ParentDish}

Jan 12th 2011 2:21PM Each child is different, so perhaps that family does well with rigid structure and rules. Americans are known for ingenuity, creativity, which are factors less evident in many cultures. I prefer instilling a love of learning, joy of success, and an empathy for society. I didn't push my child at all, but reminded her to enjoy many facets of life to excel as a human being. I did insist on respect, good values and gracious manners though. These are not accomplished by 3 hours of compulsory violin or academic perfection.

Source: 'Bachelor' Brad Vowed to Propose This Time {PopEater}

Jan 4th 2011 3:29PM If they sincerely wanted to find a match for Brad they wouldn't have lined up all those 24,25,26 yr. olds. Hardly an equal match for a 38 yr. old with ambitions to find a wife and mother of his children. Great sport for an immature player though who knows that even if he proposes, the chance of reaching the altar are slim to none. I don't like the expression in his eyes; he looks like he's hiding something. Just an observation.
