In Praise of Single Mothers: Why I'm Glad I Was Raised by a Single Mom {MyDaily}
Feb 25th 2011 3:43PM The thrust of this article is similar to what the tobacco companies did when health concerns began to gain traction. They always seemed to find some 90 year old who smoked two packs of unfiltered cigarettes a day without ill effect. In fact, you can always find exceptions. However, the fact remains that for the vast majority of single women, single parenthood dooms them to poverty and all the resultant effects on them, their children and society in general. I challenge you to find one study in the past 30 years that concludes otherwise. I am happy for the parent and the child who negotiate single parenthood without ill effect, just as I am happy for the 90 year old smoker. They are both rare exceptions. This article does a disservice to women. It does not advance women.
Lose Weight for Summer: Your Two-Week Meal Plan {That's Fit}
May 10th 2010 8:27AM An artichoke and green tea for lunch. Yeah, that is what I call sustainable eating. Of course you will lose weight eating nutrient dense, low fat, high fiber foods. It sounds a lot like eat your fruits and veggies. What a revelation! And if you continue to eat like that for the rest of your life and exercize reasonably you will probably reach your ideal body weight. ORAC points is designed for one purpose, to make Dr. Oz lots of money. I have a plan too. It's DOODOO points. A pint of ice cream or its equivelant has 10,000 DOODOO points. You can have 10,000 DOODOO points per month. It's yours for just a buck!!
The Gender Pay Gap--New Opportunities for Women {AOL Jobs}
Apr 1st 2010 4:18PM Oh, so it's not just males victimizing woman and defacto sexism like we have been repeatedly told for the past 20 years? well, well, well. live and learn
Opinion: I Had a C-Section - Does That Make Me Less of a Mother? {ParentDish}
Mar 17th 2010 10:26AM It's unfortunate that this woman's self-esteem is so low that she questions her motherhood. C section is "abnormal" in that it is not the normal birth route. That's all. The doctor didn't say she or her baby or here status as mother was not valid. She is the one that infers that and the rest of the world need not be responsible for her victim sensibilities.
Martin Luther King III: Working to Realize the Dream {Blackvoices Main}
Jan 18th 2010 9:15AM I take issues with a number of MLK3's comments. The Gates case was not racism, reasonable people black and white understand that. It was "oppression theater", nothing more. King's pie in the sky indictments of the American "Empire" are nonsense. It's the "I'll change when the world changes" school of thought. He spoke about AIDS and Education. What specifically has he done to counter and eliminate testing and secrecy protocols, instituted by Gay Rights Activist in the 80's, which ensured then and continues to ensure that the disease continues to spread in the most vulnerable populations? Nothing, that's Politically correct landmine. What specifically has he done to address lack of educational opportunities for blacks, specifically, corrupt teacher's unions that has consigned generations to shoddy education, and the anti-education, "acting white" school of thought common among young blacks? Probably as much as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, NOTHING. It's easier to blame "the man". MLK3 has a choice. Have the courage of his father, or continue to let his name and legacy eventually have the same weight as an Elvis impersonator.
Facing a Long Shot Re-election Bid, Sen. Chris Dodd Folds His Cards {Politics Daily}
Jan 8th 2010 10:50AM Shapiro has got to be the most dishonest political columnist in a pantheon of dishonest columnists. Dodd did not drop out of the race because of "fear of defeat or loyalty to the Democratic Party"? Who is Shapiro kidding? Those are exactly two of several reasons Dodd is out. He cannot be reelected in CT and if he ran, the best Democratic choice, Blumenthal, would be out of the race and a Republican would have taken the Senate seat. It's transparent to everyone except Shapiro. His "elegant" statement about not being irreplacable is also laughable. If he could, Dodd would gladly stay for another 5 terms. His criminal mortgage financing and his responsiblity for the financial crisis as chairman of the Banking Committee are another two reasons he is not running Walter.
Advice Columnist Defends Her Rape Apologist Stance {Lemondrop}
Dec 14th 2009 12:35PM What is so wrong in pointing out that the young woman's lack of judgement exposed her to a dangerous situation ? That's not blaming her for being raped.
It is self evident that it is not a good idea for a young woman to get wasted at a college frat party. She should go to the police and file charges.
It seems that anything that doesn't completely exonerate someone for the results of their behaviour is "blaming the victim" What nonsense.
The Truth About Immigrants and Health Care {Politics Daily}
Dec 6th 2009 4:02AM Why do the two have to be mutually exclusive? Why not have illegal immigrants be required to register as legal immigrants in order to have the ability to pay into a health insurance plan. This could be offered without penalty of deportation with a few exceptions and put people on a path to citizenship. Access to Health care would be linked to the commitment to change one's immigration status. To include civics education and language proficiency. To suggest immigration reform is possible after allowing access to health care is fanciful. It will never happen. Then, American corporations that hire illegals, would no longer be able to use their status as a means of keeping people in slavery regarding wages and working conditions. Joe Wilson was and continues to be correct about Obama and the Democratic plan.
Blogs Battle to Out Anderson Cooper {PopEater}
Nov 4th 2009 2:41PM I love the vicious little justifications these bloggers use to be obsessed with Cooper's sexuality. "Oh, we're not outing him," we're just obnoxious and obsessed because we have to reach a "tipping point" so being gay is like ordering diet soda. Good luck with that. Vile little cretins like Perez Hilton betray their own unhappiness, isolation and self hatred.
The Election's Carry-Over Lessons? There Are Fewer Than You Think. {Politics Daily}
Nov 4th 2009 2:14PM Nice spin Mr. Shapiro. You almost fell all over yourself making sure we know these election had nothing to do with Obama. Thanks, I was going around thinking that they clearly showed the value of his and Biden's campaigning. I also thought they were a slap at his and the Democratic Congress spending orgies. How helpful to know this had "nothing-absolutely nothing" to do with Congress. Written like an impartial Obama supporter. Oh, and the reason that young voters stayed home? The Obama campaign got the asute little buggers off the couch for the same reason as a free KISS concert. During the mundane off year elections, the response was "There's no Party DUDE?? Then I'm fersure voting....NOT"
