Buyers Want Out of Serial Killer's Former Home {Housingwatch}
Sep 23rd 2010 3:52AM I looked at a house for sale years ago that was built on a hillside that rose up to the high foothills of our local mountains. I noticed that the driveway and patio looked like a miniature version of plate tectonics. They were severely cracked and the pieces appeared to be sort of floating downhill even though the area was more or less flat. There was a slight slope heading downhill towards the street but nothing that would justify the extent of the cracks and the "floating" appearance of the pieces. I kept looking around the place for awhile puzzling about this mystery. The scenery here was nice and I kept looking up to the highest hills. Then I saw IT. IT was the scar of an ancient landslide high up on the face of one of these hills, which were really low mountains. I know a few things about our local geology and I suddenly realised that this house had been built upon an extremely old, yet still ACTIVE landslide! It was built on the runout part that is still creeping to this day. The slide was so old that the scar was well covered with vegetation so it took me awhile to see it. Then, as I looked around and really studied the terrain in this little canyon, I could see evidence of the old landslide everywhere. The agent I was using may not have been aware of how the local geology was affecting this property but when I told him about it and showed him the evidence, he couldn't have cared less. I called the LA Times real estate editor about this amazing disclosure problem and he said it is all about Buyer Beware. In other words, ALWAYS RESEARCH the property in which you are interested. Research every single aspect (especially the geology if you are looking to buy in hilly or mountainous areas). Every single house has some kind of history you may or may not be able to live with. YOU are responsible for discovery.
4 Reasons to Love Milk {Kitchen Daily}
Aug 22nd 2010 4:06AM Goat milk is more digestible than cow's milk because the fat molecules are smaller. Goat milk actually IS better for human dietary needs. Some have said that the only thing cow's milk is good for is calves.
Cream and heavy cream from cows have amazing flavor if you use organic product. Non-organic product does not whip up as nicely and has additives such as carageenan for thickening. It's flavor is distinctly
different from organic and not as good. Furthermore, unless labeled specifically, non-organic cream will likely come from cows treated with rBGH and rBST growth hormones. And furthermore, organic heavy cream does not spoil as fast as non-organic. This is true of organic
milk also. Organic milk and cream are significantly more expensive than the non-organic stuff but the superior flavor, keeping quality, whipping quality and freedom from drugs and hormones makes paying the higher price absolutely worth it. Too bad we can't get cream from Jersey cows here in America - it's superior to Holstein cream by far.
Cesar Millan or Victoria Stilwell? Who Would You Rather Have Train Your Dog? {Pawnation OLD}
Aug 21st 2010 2:56AM Oh give me a break. Do any of you think Caesar would be so successful in his training techniques if he were teaching dogs to be AFRAID of their owners? Please. The man is brilliant, he obviously knows what he is doing and the dogs AND owners learn techniques to develop a better relationship and to get a decent, well-mannered, co-operative pet. If the positive reinforcement technique works just as well or better, then use THAT one if you like. It's YOUR choice, Owner! Both techniques work to make a better dog and a better owner so who cares whether one technique is "better" than the other.
Twelve Words You Didn't Know You Were Mispronouncing {Lemondrop}
Aug 18th 2010 3:36AM I HATE it when people say "supposably" instead of "supposedly."
I ESPECIALLY can't stand it when morons pronounce the word spelled "lingerie" as "law(n)-jer-ay." The word is pronounced "la(n)-jer-ee" with a flat-sounding "a" (as in "land") and "swallowed" or silent "n".
Confessions of a Motel Maid {AOL Jobs}
Jul 30th 2010 3:27AM HAHA! I left a fresh ostrich egg in the refrigerator at the Hilltopper Motel in Kingman, AZ! That darned egg was 20 bucks at the ostrich farm. The motel owner wasn't surprised when I called the next day about my egg. He was VERY nice and was willing to carefully pack it and mail it to me. Ostrich eggs can be left unrefrigerated for a few days so a couple days in the USPS wouldn't be a problem and he was willing to do a very careful packing for it to protect it from breakage. After his fee for packing it and the USPS fee for shipping it, that stupid egg ended up costing me 40 bucks!! It sure was good to eat though! Hilltopper is a very nice motor court with a spectacular cactus garden in front, on Route 66.

Jul 16th 2010 3:21AM Comment #9 - Karen, about meal moths: Go to Gardens Alive online and buy their meal moth traps. This will get rid of them. As for the article, what idiot actually believes grits, cornmeal and oatmeal just "swell up" when the ant eats it? Any idea at all how retarded this idea is? It's like the belief that you shouldn't throw rice at weddings because birds will eat the grains and they will swell up in their stomachs and kill them. Duh, fool, you have to COOK meal and rice in HOT water for them to swell up. Ants eat this raw stuff all the time. Some ants haul stuff like this back to their nests to grow a particular type of fungus. Whole grains swell up in cold water but what ant is going to eat a whole grain? They will haul it back to their nest though. DO NOT spread grain meals around in your house unless you want families of rodents, roaches, crickets and MORE ants to move in.
Dear Rest of the World, I'm Perfectly Happy (Choosing) to Be Single {Lemondrop}
Apr 18th 2010 4:22AM The writer's diatribe would be convincing were he not so angry and cynical. Who is he kidding? It's not difficult to see that he will be single for a long time to come. Who would want to latch onto a bitter, curmudgeonly old bastard like this anyway?
