Autism Risk Higher With Closely-Spaced Pregnancies {ParentDish}
Jan 10th 2011 9:56AM Not all scientific studies are funded with tax dollars - some of the money comes from private foundations that fund research, or it may be a private university. Some corporations fund research.
Autism Risk Higher With Closely-Spaced Pregnancies {ParentDish}
Jan 10th 2011 9:49AM I'm a nurse practitioner in the maternal-child field, and we have always advocated that women space their babies at least 2 years apart for optimum health. Your body needs time to recover from the first pregnancy before you get pregnant again, especially if you breastfed the first baby.
I'm always amused when people believe their own personal anecdotes over scientifically designed studies that look at hundreds, maybe thousands of cases and try to find a statistically significant number (if you took statistics in college, you would know what that means).

A Baby's Death by Flu Spurs His Parents on to Educate the Masses {ParentDish}
Sep 15th 2010 10:34AM For young infants, they have an immature immune system and must get the vaccine in 3 separate shots spread out for them to acquire full immunity. This child had only 2 of the 3 shots, so he hadn't had time to become fully immune to the virus. The flu can turn deadly quickly, filling up the lungs with fluid, not letting the gases exchange and you become hypoxic and die very fast if not put on a ventilator @ 100% oxygen.
My sweet cousin got the flu last fall, got so sick so fast and was in ICU for 2 months on a ventilator, medically paralyzed, and she almost died several times. She was saved by God, sent home on oxygen and is still not back to her old self. She had no predisposing factors - no asthma, did not smoke, was a healthy young woman.
Get your whole family flu shots!

Jun 30th 2010 8:04AM I don't know why anyone would care about what some man thinks about what they wear. Wear what you want, what is comfortable and what you think you look good in. Nothing is sexier than a confident woman.
Campbell Brown Quits CNN With Shockingly Frank Farewell {Politics Daily}
May 20th 2010 11:33AM When I watch KO on MSNBC, I know I'm getting commentary. When you watch Beck or O'Reilly on FAUX News, you think you are getting the hard facts. The mainstream media (ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN) are losing viewers because they report the unbiased news and FACTS that have been checked. People don't want that anymore; they want to listen to someone who tells them what they want to hear. I prefer PBS and NPR, and I like CNN, but everywhere you go here in the South, tv's are permanently set on FOX. It's sad. People don't want facts, they want opinions that match their own.
The aid gap: Why grants can't keep up with tuition spikes {WalletPop}
May 20th 2010 9:50AM When I started @ a public university in 1979, tuition was so much per quarter hour up to 10 hours - then there was a flat fee of $178/quarter. I attended a private college the year before and spent $6,000 for 4 quarters, including dorm and meals. My son is going to the same private college now and it costs $30,000/year. The same large state university is now $10,000/year.
Does anyone believe that students are getting that much better of an education now than we did then? I certainly don't!
