MMA Is No Breakthrough for Women {Fanhouse Main}

Aug 19th 2009 4:19PM If it's not ok for a woman to show her skill and toughness in the ring, how can you justify it being ok for men? I believe it's an all or nothing approach. To have equality you must accept the good and the bad. I'm not a fan of MMA but I do feel if there is a market for it, and people have the skills and are willing they should be allowed to participate. It's not like you have a man vs woman or anything that would seem physically unfair as every competitor is divided into respective weigh classes and examined for their fitness to compete prior to an event. There have been many less injuries and fatalities related to MMA than there have been in boxing, and if Don King is coming out against something I have to question his motives as they may be related to profit and not to an altruistic motivation. As a veteran Marine I also take exception to the writer's comment about women in combat, is a woman's life any more valuable than a man's simply because we have been conditioned to keep women out of the frontlines? Modern warfare isn't about establishing a frontline, combat happens in the blink of an eye, I rather have a woman trained to protect herself and able to inflict damage than carrying on the victim role by not having the training and means to prtect themself in the ring, cage, or battlefield.

Jul 13th 2009 11:40AM The reason we survived was that the stupid kids took the stupid risks that ended up killing them. Motorcycle helmets, seatbelts, bicycle and skateboarding pads and helmets, were not mandated. People knew a cup full of coffee straight from the drivet through was hot and didn't need a label on it to remind them. We have in a major way legislated and sued Darwinism out of the equation. Too many stupid people survive to old age and political office these days.
