Girl, 14, Wins National Spelling Bee With 'Cymotrichous' {ParentDish}

Jun 3rd 2011 10:49AM She Is American, her heritage is also Indian, what is wrong with saying she's "Indian-American"? There are people who are Irish-American, Italian-American, etc. America is a melting pot and technically we are all foreighers.

I do agree with you that immigrants in general do see America as the land of opportunity and we who have been here for generations don't push our kids enough.

'Smart Girls Marry Money' -- These Authors Didn't, and Say You Should {Lemondrop}

Jul 30th 2010 2:47PM I totally agree with the previous posts. Both partners should be hard-working, and be financially independant from eachother. My parents have always taught me to be independant, financially and otherwise, because you need to be level-headed and learn to maintain your finances and live within a budget...because when you lose your job or insurance goes up or that unexpected house repair comes along you cannont depend on "oh honey, we will be okay, things will work out..." fluff. Love is important, but you need to be able to take care of yourself, because beauty fades, affection does fade and you need to fall back on something more stable than love.

And I agree, i don't want some man-bitch at home working out 24-7 and getting his hair done and getting a mani-pedi, I don't expect reasonable men want the same in a wife...I wouldn't respect him if that's all he expected from me.

And btw, it does work, my dad is a physician and my mom is a banker and they considered are the "realistic" stuff before they married and it's worked all this time. Every relationship I have entered I have considered the same factors, it doesn't mean I'm a gold digger, because I'm a physician and I earn more than enough to take care of my financial needs; you have to look out for your future.

The Controversy Over 'Busty' Barbie and Our Idolatry of Hookers {BV Black Spin}

May 26th 2010 12:59PM These dolls were "designed" by designers like Rachel Roy, Carolina Herrera and the ilk, they were auctioned off for charity a few months ago as Designer Barbies. These are copies that have hit the mainstream.

Plus Barbie has idealized proportions from the beginning, so why is this such a controversy?

Eyelash product seized by the FDA {That's Fit}

Nov 19th 2007 9:19PM I know someone may have already mentioned this, but c'mon, if you want longer lashes--use mascara, or fake lashes, there are safe cosmetics out there, why use something to enhance lash growth when no one else will notice but you?

A new way to get into your skinny jeans {Stylelist}

Sep 2nd 2007 10:58AM Come on, do you really believe that? She's naturally thin, but can you get those abs and that ass without working out? Get a reality check people. AOL Entertainment has become more trashy and sensationalized.

Everyone knows the secret to getting into skinny jeans--diet and exercise--what we lack is the capacity or the control to achieve weight goals.

Hair straightening made simple {DIY Life}

Sep 1st 2007 3:27PM I use a little bit of hair oil on the ends--use on wet hair! Then I blow dry with a metal or ceramic round brush. Also use a little shine serum and then give one final blow. Your hair will look so glossy.

Don't go overboard with the spray hair oil. btw--You can usually find it in the African American hair products aisle. I'm indian and I have really long curly/wavy hair, and this oil really works for me, and for all my girlfriends..

Good luck!

Face Your Hairs {oldstylelist}

Aug 30th 2007 3:38PM For #5--Judy: I would go in for a consultation at a reputed Plastic Surgeon's office if you want to get rid of the "rooster neck", for the lines around your nose and mouth, you should go to a dermatologist and get collagen fillers and I believe that collagen fillers can be used for "crow's feet" or lines around the eyes.

By the way, I had a laser hair removal treatments 8 years ago when I was 15 and it was the best thing that could have happened to me. My parents shelled out about $7000, a thousand per treatment. But it was worth it--I had scars and discoloration after the treatments and it took about a year for it to fade but I had a lot of facial hair--it was coarse and dark--some hairs grow back and you need more treatments later, but I wax about once a month and pull out the strays. But it has made my life a lot better and made me feel great about myself.

To the lady who said that you should shave between treatments--it is so that your hair root can be destroyed in the next laser treatment so they ask you not to wax or use cream between treatments.

I've tried it all and laser really is the best. It's worth the money and the pain. BTW--don't shave! There is a girl at school who shaves and now she has shadow--everyone fixates on her because of it...shaving is not worth it and you will regret it when you get older. If laser treatment is not an option then waxing is the next best thing.

good luck to all in the hair dilemmas...

WIN BIG: It's The Miss South Carolina Word Scramble!! {News Bloggers}

Aug 28th 2007 11:46AM THis is so sad, she probably got nervous. She's definitely in the 1/5th category. She probably memorized some sort of general all-encompassing speech and then decided to let it rip.

I feel really bad for her...she's probably gonna become a porn star. What the hell was she on?
