Better Comatose Than Fat? {Lemondrop}

Mar 9th 2010 7:46PM Okay, seriously.
This is a REALLY disturbing trend, I won't dent that, but you are way off here, and perpetuating a myth that blames the suffering.

Negative media can lead to disorded eating, it CANNOT lead to an eating disorder.
When most people restrict their food intake, at some point their body will make it immensely difficult to continue mistreating it, because their biology (appropriately) is geared towards self preservation.
Other people restrict, however, and their biology responds in exactly the opposite way, signalling them to continue to eat less and less.

The first group has disordered eating. The second has an eating disorder. The difference is clear cut and determined by different biological signals.

You can't catch anorexia any more than you can "catch" obsessive compulsive disorder, clinical depression, or any number of other organic disorders. It's not a choice, or even a slippery slope because they saw too many skinny people, or no one would be CAPABLE of literally starving themselves to stroke, heart attack, and DEATH.

If you are suffering, you can't blame yourself. It wasn't one too many diets, it wasn't one too many issues of Vogue. You have a disease, and with support, you can get better.
But not if you're still trying to blame that low-cal salad dressing.
