Apr 20th 2011 10:32PM You're absolutely right, Vida. These disorders are more often than not, mislabeled. They are chemical imbalances in the brain no different than the diabetic sugar/insulin imbalance. The "mental" should be eliminated and call it what it is, a physical illness.

Aug 20th 2010 1:41PM There are many types of abuse. I left a marriage of over 13 years, we were together 2 years before that. The first 6 years were although not perfect, they were for the most part happy. Then his mother (with whom he has MANY issues) had a heart attack. He stayed drunk for 4 days that week. After that, he never quit drinking. The next 8 years were horrible. The emotional abuse was terrible. I was belittled, laughed at for what I thought about issues, my opinion. He attacked me only once, but with the escalating anger I knew it would only get worse. We've been mostly amicable these past 3 years but his drinking has gotten worse and now he's married to an alcoholic. The physical abuse is starting (albiet slowly and mildly) on my son. So, now comes the sole custody fight.

Some divorces can't be helped. Some ugly fights can't be helped. It's always, ALWAYS sad and painful, but not always selfish or avoidable.

May 27th 2010 6:23PM You have to applaude Bristol for handling it as well as she has. Although, I worry about young girls watching her new celebrity status and wonder. Even if she's preaching abstinence, she's now fairly famous and making more cash than those girls listening to her are. Must sound pretty good to all lot of young girls out there. Scary.

I know every high school in and around Anchorage and there is no Juneau-Douglas anywhere. I'm thinking, and it's just aguess here...I'm thinking Juneau-Douglas High School is in ... let's say...Juneau???
