'Will Marry for Health Insurance' -- One Woman's Desperate Quest {Lemondrop}
Feb 10th 2010 1:56AM Erinbliss: I would take your comments seriously if you could spell and if it was evident you had any clue how our government works and/or what the party platform of the Republican Party is. I'm sure we are all waiting breathlessly for you to point out how and why you arrived at the conclusion that the Republican party doesn't care about health issues. You base it on one person - Newt Gingrich? That is simply brilliant. It is obvious that you have no serious knowledge of: 1) the issues surrounding the health care debate; 2) all the proposals the Republican Party has put forward that the Democrats have refused to even consider (until this week when Obama figured out that he now needs the Republicans on board); 3) that the Democrats have controlled Congress for the last 3 years and in the last year had a super-majority and could have pushed through any health care legislation it wanted to without interference from the Republicans, but the Democrats couldn't and wouldn't do it. Before you extrapolate the "Republican health care position" from the alleged actions of one man who hasn't been a politician for how long now, take a civics class, learn how our government works, and find out what the Republican party really stands for because otherwise you just sound ignorant.

Feb 9th 2010 2:30PM Workinggirl622 get a clue. What, you're blaming the Republicans for something they never promised? The Republicans during the last 8 years never made health care reform a central part of their platform or a campaign promise. That was the Democrats and they had unfettered reign for the last year and couldn't get it done because they fought among themselves. You also need to learn to count. The Democrats had control of Congress for the last two years of the Bush administration, so the Republicans weren't in power for the "last 8 years."
The rest of your comment is the height of ignorant. We now have a President willing to tackle the tough issues? Yeah, that Bush just lollygagged around for 8 years. Not like we were attacked by terrorists less than a year into his presidency necessitating he spend 8 years keeping us safe. And what tough issues has Obama tackled? He's kept to the Bush policies on the war and gitmo (despite promises to the contrary); he hasn't managed to push through health care reform; unemployment is above 12% and we lost 4 million jobs in the last year and the economy still sucks. And as you ponder how to type about how Obama inherited this situation and couldn't control it, that's bull. Obama was in Congress for two years as a senator. He was part of the governing body that made fiscal and military decisions for two years of the Bush administration. You can't inherit as situation you participated in. He's not solely to blame but neither is Bush. Take a civics lesson.

Feb 9th 2010 2:04PM Sorry Joyce005 but your statements just aren't true: The Republicans have put forward several proposals. In fact the Republican attempted to present a bill that would save money and provide coverage to more people than the Democrat bill would. What happened to the bill, well since they were shut out of all negotiations, it wasn't even considered. Not to mention that Republican leaders have been on numerous talk shows discussing the key parts to any health care plan - particularly tort reform and cross state line insurance - both of which will lower health care costs and open more options to Americans. The Democrats are not interested - it's hard to be interested in tort reform when you live in the pockets of trial lawyers. I don't know what news channels you watch but if you can say with a straight face that the Republicans haven't put any ideas forward then you're clearly watching either "mainstream" media or far left media.
As far as the Dems, for the last year, they should have been able to pass any bill they wanted. They had the votes and there was nothing the republicans could do to stop them. I agree that they don't really want health care, they just want to "sound good."

Feb 9th 2010 11:45AM Nelson you're an idiot. The Republicans haven't held up health care for the last year. Do you have any concept of how our government works? The Republicans didn't have enough votes to hold up anything. The hold up has been the infighting in the Democratic party over healthcare. The Republicans weren't even brought to the table to present their ideas. Before making stupid comments, seriously consider getting a clue as to what is going on in Congress.

Feb 9th 2010 10:37AM Sorry for her medical situation but she's an idiot. The Republicans are saying no and stalling things? Does she know how our government works? The Republicans haven't had a voice in health care process because: a) they didn't have enough votes to stop the health care bill if they wanted to; and b) the Republicans were shut out of all discussion and negotiation despite the proposals they put forward. It wasn't until Brown was elected less than a month ago that this changed and they now have enough votes to make a difference necessitating the President to now step forward and decide to invite the Republicans to the table. All the stalling and bickering on health care was in the Democratic party only. Get a clue and learn something about our government.
