Egypt Up in Arms Over Artificial Virginity Device {Lemondrop}

Oct 19th 2009 4:30PM Caitlin is partly right. Many women indeed don't bleed their first time having sex. Either they were not born with enough of a hymen for it to tear or it was previously torn during non-sexual activity (such as sports or exercising).

I have to disagree, in part, with virginity being an outdated, "medieval" value. If everyone remained a virgin until marriage, remained faithful to their spouse, and abstained from illicit drug use, sexually transmitted infections would not be a concern. Neither would rape, pedophilia, incest, etc. be of any concern. This is, of course, in an ideal world where everyone waited until marriage and remained faithful and clean.

This ideal life is exactly what God wants for all of us. And surveys and studies confirm it... Overall, married people rate their levels of sexual satisfaction higher than single people do.

Now, as to those cultures where it is only the women who are "checked" for virginity, where women are considered the property of their husbands (not their husbands' equals), where women cannot even testify for themselves in court, those societies are worse than medieval... they're misogynistic and barbaric.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Both men and women should wait until marriage to engage in sex, and then only with the person they married.
