Don't Know Nothin' About Algebra? You Might Suffer From Dyscalculia {ParentDish}
Jun 1st 2011 2:42PM I really resent the above comment. I've suffered with this problem for years and my oldest son has it. We are far from stupid, with IQ's in the 140's. Numbers simply don't make sense to us. He was tested and they found this to be true. And when you add the very confusing "new math", where everything is broken down into little, microscopic parts, and then you have to put them back to make an answer, well, it just doesn't happen for us. Just because you don't have this doesn't give you the right to condemn others who do. Perhaps you need work on the compassion portion of your brain!
Co-Sleeping: Is a Family Bed Worth the Safety Concerns? {ParentDish}
Apr 11th 2011 2:36PM My eldest son did not sleep through the night until he was 18 months old! (He had reflux very badly. He also never napped!) That's a year and half with almost zero sleep for me. The only way we all got some much needed rest was to have him sleep with us. I know "experts" frown on this practice, but most of them have never had any experience with a child like this. You do what you have to do to survive, and if you think this is disruptive to a marriage, try dealing with everyday issues being severely sleep deprived! We all made it through this time and are doing just fine!
Do Nasal Strips Help Improve Exercise Performance? {That's Fit}
Apr 6th 2011 1:50PM I have oily skin, and no matter how well I clean, or what I use to clean with, these strips pop off every time! And I've tried every size, too. I wasted my money and got no relief.
Living With a Special-Needs Pet - Advice From the Author of 'Homer's Odyssey' {Pawnation OLD}
Apr 6th 2011 1:45PM Gwen's book is one of the best written books I have read in a long time. I laughed and cried and I am recommending it to everyone I know! We have been "rescue cat" people for years. All of our fur children have had bad beginnings or have special needs. And yet they give so much love and have such gratitude. They are the best! I can't wait to read Gwen's next work!
City Official Says Rats Damaging Tourism in NYC {AOL Travel News}
Apr 6th 2011 1:37PM This is why we need to have feral cat colonies and stop trying to wipe them out! They are our first and best defense against rodent explosions. Poisons have to be used in such great quantity they become lethal to humans. With feral cats, have them TNR'd, or trap, neuter, release, so they in turn do not become a problem. (You can tell a TNR cat by the clipped left ear tip.) Where I live, the CDC has stated at least 1/4th of our rodents carry the deadly hanta virus. My two domestic cats have killed to date, 116 mice and 2 rats; that I know of. Ferals kill many more. This is a natural and smart solution to the rodent problem facing Manhattan.
New Health Study Finds Airport Scanners Safe {AOL Travel News}
Mar 29th 2011 2:37PM I was made to go through a scanner just yesterday at the Boise airport. (They made everyone go through.) It was actually physically painful! It was a really unpleasant tingling all over my body. Maybe some people don't feel it, but I did. I will never let someone put me in one of those things again!
I hope the studies prove these things are not safe and they have to go. I am so very tired of having to be put through all of this, and possibly have my health compromised, because of a handful of maniacs!
Jennifer Aniston Cut Her Hair to Avoid the 'Real Housewives' Look {Stylelist}
Feb 24th 2011 7:18PM Her hair may be shorter, but it's STILL just parted in the middle (ala Marcia, Marcia, Marcia) and hanging in her face!! She hasn't had an original look in 20 years and this "new" look is a joke!
Would You Choose Your Pet Over Your Partner? {Pawnation OLD}
Jan 29th 2011 12:13PM My cat shows me more love in an hour than my husband has in 34 years of marriage! Plus, she is the one I turn to when I am sad or upset because she just loves me, and doesn't tell me I am wrong for having the feelings I have. Beat that, human companions!
My Grandson's Meltdowns Are Wearing Us Out! {ParentDish}
Jan 18th 2011 1:57PM When my oldest son threw a fit in a department store because he couldn't get his way, I stepped over him and said, "I'm not going to watch this!" and I headed for the door. He jumped to his feet calling, "Mommy! Mommy I'm sorry!" He never did it again. No audience, no reason for the fit. After that, we got the Berenstain Bears book on kids who misbehave in public and read it often. My other two kids knew what would happen to them if they did the same thing because their brother told them. You don't owe your son an explanation. You told him no and that should be enough. If not, the consequences should be his. Parents just aren't acting like adults anymore and think they have to pander to the child. You don't.
Was 2010 the Worst Year for Movies Ever? {Moviefone Blog}
Dec 27th 2010 7:16PM My husband and I quit going to see movies in the theater because of idiots who can't leave their cell phones alone, and in a dark theater all you can see is the bright, blue light from the phone. And people who bring their small children and NEVER take them out when they cry, or let them run around, or they talk loudly because they are too young and have no interest in the movie! The last movie we went to, the mother took her squalling 2 year old and walked her in front of the screen! That was the last straw!
