Confessions of an Occasionally Bad Pet Owner {Pawnation OLD}
Dec 21st 2011 7:07AM Regarding the fence issue, I would recomment an electric fence. Once the dog has learned where to stop, one can even remove the batteries from the collar and/or turn it off. The shock does not hurt (I tried it on myself first), and even my most boneheaded dog learned what the beeping signified in about 30 seconds. Install it about a foot inside the "real" fence, and the escaping issue should be resolved fairly quickly. And if, after time, the dog gets cocky, just turn it back on again for a refresher course.
7 Things That Drive Vets Crazy {Pawnation OLD}
Dec 17th 2011 7:32PM Kristen - one of my dogs weighs well over 100 lbs. Even if I could purchase a carrier for him, do you think I could life it? Cats are much harder to control than dogs (I have cats also), and are much safer in a carrier. If a dog has been properly brought up, a word should be enough to prevent any ill behavior.
6 Ways to Make Halloween Safe and Fun for Your Dog {Pawnation OLD}
Oct 15th 2011 9:47AM Thank you - I was going to say exactly the same thing. One not only needs to protect the dog, one wants to protect the children at the door, who don't understand that not every animal wants to be petted by some stranger in strange clothing.

Renaming Your Rescue Dog {Pawnation OLD}
Sep 4th 2011 5:50AM Mostly, dogs hear vowel sounds, not consonants. Mine come to the tone of my voice, to paper crackling in the kitchen, or anything that sounds like I mean them (all three will show up, even if I only call one of them, in case they might miss something important). I only "rename" a dog if it doesn't have a name on arrival - and I only take seniors or special needs. The rescue group with which I work also keeps known names, and strays are assigned a specific beginning letter and the foster family chooses a name beginning with that letter. Mine also come if I am calling the cats. Names are for the comfort and convenience of humans - dogs really don't care very much, so long as there is love.
ER Visits by Teen Boys Skyrocket During July 4 Weekend {ParentDish}
Jul 2nd 2011 7:35AM I think they use illiterates, not 10 year old kids. Spellcheck doesn't care if one uses the wrong word, only if it is correctly spelled.
Heidi Klum: You're Never Too Old for Topless Tanning {PopEater}
Jul 1st 2011 7:49AM She has made herself a millionaire through her modeling and Project Runway, so she doesn't need any more education. How well have you done?
Having said that, tanning is extremely unhealthy and no one should go out and do it. Might as well slather oneself with Crisco and climb in a frying pan.
