Tell Us: What Do You Want to Know About Living on the Cheap? {Lemondrop}
Aug 15th 2009 11:35AM I have found that looking for the grocery stores and dented can stores that are sometimes placed on the less affluent sides of town can really pay off. The Super Saver and ALDI are my faves. The meats are reasonable and the can goods are cheaper than you will find anywhere (39 cents for a can of green beans at Super Saver). Farmers markets are a great way to save money on produce too. And you can freeze just about anything if you can't use it before it spoils. The quality of produce is more consistant than the big glossy chain grocery stores too. Also if short on cash, soups and chili are cheap and easy to make. And you can eat on it for a few days or freeze it for later. And don't be afraid to experiment with what you have in the pantry. My husband has been impressed with what I have thrown together with what I had on hand.
