Getting Teens to Talk (Eww) About Sex {ParentDish}

Jun 19th 2010 10:16PM Tom: the article is titled "Getting Teens to Talk (Ewww) About Sex". It's missing the part where you advise parents on how to talk to kids about sex. Maybe you should rewrite, include that part, and resubmit?

AOL Mystery Flyer: Spirit Airlines Report Card {AOL Travel News}

May 3rd 2010 3:53AM Tanya, you're far too worked up to understand the point of the article. The point wasn't whether or not she was asking the right person, but if they would still be friendly enough to help even if it wasn't part of the job description. You must not have a job, because everyone who does knows that at some point during the day, someone will ask a question that obviously isn't being directed at the right person. Do we snap at them and say, "That's not my job, ask someone else?" or do we offer what information we have NICELY and lead them in the right direction? Sorry you weren't able to understand this article. Maybe you should stick to MySpace.

Stop Excuses, Before I Lose My Mind {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Apr 29th 2010 5:57PM Athletes act like animals because we allow it. Our society values attractiveness and athleticism over intelligence and character. So let's not blame Benny Boy for his behavior -- I'll bet people have been letting him get away with that stuff for years. Animals do what they're trained to do. As the saying goes, it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

Bridesmaid Etiquette -- The Dos and Don'ts of Saying No to a Bridezilla {Lemondrop}

Apr 27th 2010 6:10PM I find the "Bridezilla" phenomenon insane, but much has changed since my friends started getting married 20 years ago. Back then, they were grateful for everything we did to help, and they NEVER asked us to pay for the dress or to buy shoes especially for the wedding. They simply worked the cost of the dress into the wedding budget or got a relative to give the dresses as a wedding gift. Brides need to be thankful for what they have and grateful for the support.

Speak No Evil? How to Get Kids to Talk About Bullying {ParentDish}

Apr 21st 2010 12:51AM Andy, the majority of schools today have no-tolerance policies when it comes to bullying. As a teacher, I'm always on the lookout for it. The problem is that it's difficult to prove and the child being bullied is often too frightened to follow a report through to the end. Sad, but true. Teachers are only in charge of discipline in the classroom -- when it comes to bullying, it's an administrative issue and teachers have no control over the situation at that point. We can follow up and move our referral to the top of the pile, but we can't force an administrator to act on it.

The Unschooling Movement: School's Out ... Forever {ParentDish}

Apr 19th 2010 11:11PM Thanks for proving our point. When you make a word plural, such as your incorrect use of "teachers", you NEVER add an apostrophe. You only needed an "s".

Stay in school. Clearly, you haven't been paying attention during English class.

The Unschooling Movement: School's Out ... Forever {ParentDish}

Apr 19th 2010 11:02PM I have been dealing with the same situation year after year. There are always students who begin the year somewhere between November and April, about the time Mommy realized she didn't want to homeschool anymore. These kids are usually proficient readers, but low in math, science and critical thinking skills. In short, homeschooled kids excel where their parents excel; become weak where their parents are weak. Public schools are far from perfect, but I know very few teachers who aren't trying in some small way to make positive changes.

The Unschooling Movement: School's Out ... Forever {ParentDish}

Apr 19th 2010 10:56PM AS: you are right on the money. So many religious fanatics homeschool their kids in order to keep them ignorant of science, history and their own bodies. They can never venture out of the community after this kind of cerebral abuse.

The Unschooling Movement: School's Out ... Forever {ParentDish}

Apr 19th 2010 10:51PM The worst thing about this "unschooling" movement is that when Mommy gets tired of not educating her kids, she's going to dump them in school and expect the public education system to make up for her ignorance. Thanks a bunch. I look forward to our parent-teacher conferences.

Opinion: Adoptive Mother Should Be Sent to the Gulag {ParentDish}

Apr 12th 2010 2:49PM Linda: I don't know if it's creativity or stupidity that brings abortion into every issue, whether it applies or not.
