Nov 14th 2009 10:52AM There are probably not many who know that the pledge of allegiance started out as a marketing ploy in the 1800's by some forgotten manuafacturer of flags . . . presumably in the U.S. . . . to sell more flags. Apparently sales took off when the American
educational system bought into it.
When then-president Ike added the words "under God" to it the pledge got etched in stone and placed alongside the Mt.Sinai tablets.
Kids weren't very sophisticated where I grew up. We used to recite it every day and never gave it a second thought.
Nowadays, the flags are manufactured in China, or . . . oh,no . . . Vietnam.

Jun 11th 2009 2:22PM If we're talking about movies from a list that includes ALL movies ever made - I'm surprised "The Yearling" (Gregory Peck?) is not included. I was probably pre-teen when I watched it in the theater (that's the wall all movies were viewed in those days), and must admit it bothered me a little. Movies weren't supposed to end like that.

Jun 11th 2009 2:14PM by winter time, fawns have grown to the point where they have lost their spots. Have watched many "grow up" from spring through fall as they wander in and out of my back yard. In my 60's now; Bambi was a definite favorite growing up.
