Could You Stand By While Someone Was Raped? {Lemondrop}

Apr 9th 2009 12:44AM ....I don't care if it was required in my job that i not move from that place I'd run to help that woman. And considering im a woman, and not all to strong, I'd grab another person on my way out and be calling around frantically to save this poor woman.

I can't believe this man didn't try to save her himself. It's outrageous! >.<

I hope that the woman is okay, that she is not depressed and what not. I'd hate to see her spiral into a depression....

Apr 9th 2009 12:31AM On Chris and Rihanna...
I think what Chris did was horrible, I really...had a hard time believing it at first. When I saw the pictures I was so upset. How could a smart woman like Rihanna get into this? The first thought that ran through my head is "How could she let him do that!?"
I was appalled. I never really cared for Chris before, but after this I had no will to ever ever EVER listen to his songs again. And most of my friends literally went back to places and returned CDs of his, or got rid of his stuff they had.

I'm an 19 year old woman and I've had friends in abusive relationships. I've seen how it affects them.... And it's heartbreaking seeing anyone in any sort of abusive relationship.

I'm hoping Rihanna will make the right decision.....I hope she is safe.
I also hope that Chris sees what he did was horribly horribly wrong.

Apr 9th 2009 12:18AM hahahahahaha. (this is NOT at all towards the abuse thing, its to the responses about twilight)

You really want to argue that it was a happy good message being sent in twilight? Well you got another thing coming. (And YES I did read all the books, and I hated every second of it.)
1st off, Bella is obsessed with Edward, she describes him as gorgeous, perfect, beautiful, flawless, glorious, and godlike. But puts down herself left and right, YET everyone, EVEN HER TEACHER (Check Myers quotes if you don't believe me) likes her.

So with just that, there's a bad message. "pedophiles are okay." and having some sort of low self-esteem

Bella and Edward’s relationship is more like that of predator and prey. The scent of Bella’s blood tortures Edward. His restraint is meant to look noble, although courting someone who smells like food could be seen more as a sign of mental instability.

But here is the part that gets me:
Edward behaves like a predator in nearly every other way possible. He spies on Bella while she sleeps, eavesdrops on her conversations, reads her classmates’ minds, forges her signature, tries to dictate her choice of friends, encourages her to deceive her father, disables her truck, has his family hold her at his house against her will, and enters her house when no one’s there — all because, he explains, he wants her to be safe. He warns Bella how dangerous he is, but gets “furious” at anyone else who tries to warn or protect her. He even drags her to the prom against her expressed wishes. He is, in short, one of modern fiction’s best candidates for a restraining order.

I.E. ALL ABUSE. >.<

And...uh...what the heck is this:
After the wedding night in Breaking Dawn, when Bella finds herself trying to cover up a multitude of bruises left by the super-strong Edward. “This is really nothing,” Bella tells her remorseful husband, insisting that the experience was “wonderful and perfect”
Um...I would NOT want bruises after I just had sex. I'd think something is SERIOUSLY freaking wrong.

Though I know this is for her own good as a "vampire" (Which they shouldn't be called that at all...)
She would emerge so changed, after becoming a vampire, in every way that her family would not be able to see her again, for vampires are not permitted to tell humans what they are.
Well, that's taking her from her family. I.E. NOT GOOD. ABUSE.

And then there is Breaking Dawn....Bella undergoes almost none of the expected post-transformation struggles or sacrifices; instead, all at once she’s gorgeous, talented, self-controlled, and even more admired than before (and goes from self-deprecating to insufferably vain).
Which sort of sends a message of: "If im with a guy like Edward...I'll be like this too! Yayyy!" And kids WILL think that because it's in a pop culture book. But the thing is...Is Edward is NOT A GOOD GUY.

So... young readers are left with the image of a girl who discovers her own worth and gets all she ever wanted, by giving up her identity and throwing away nearly everything in life that matters.

And your saying there is no abuse... Pshhhht.

Mar 27th 2009 1:05AM Passing the blame to a book may be stupid, but it IS relevant.
Teenage girls are seeing the way Edward treats Bella. They think it's "romantic", and it's okay because it happens in a book. So then, they start assuming, "Well if Edward did it...It cant be that bad! I mean look at where they ended up! They had a kid and were happy!"

Teenagers are impressionable. So reading something that is such a phenomenon (why I don't know, the writing and story is atrocious) makes them think that it's all good.
