Fit or Fiction: Is It Safe to Run During Pregnancy? {That's Fit}

Apr 28th 2010 5:29PM I am a personal trainer who ran up until my 7 month of pregnancy. I only stopped because my heart rate would get much too high, I feared for my life and that of my baby on some of my outdoor route, and my belly was just to big and in the way. I did continue the rest of my pregnancy on the elliptical. I also worked out regularly with weights and machines and did so up until a week before my due date. I got a lot of slack from ignorant people in the gym, trainers etc but continued with what my body felt comfortable with. I lowered weights a bit, dropped certain exercises that just seemed wrong or dangerous to the baby (such as deadlifts) and basically used common sense. I gained 27lbs and delivered a healthy 6lb 2 oz girl via C-section. I wish there had been more info about exercising while pregnant while I was..good article!

Baby Formula is Not Rat Poison {ParentDish}

Apr 17th 2010 3:31PM I have to agree with Jennifer! I can walk into a room of babies and see 8 out of 10 of them spitting up and I can tell you exactly who breastfeeds and who doesnt..breastfeed babies do not spit up! What does that tell you about formula..breastmilk can not be duplicated. Maybe I was lucky but breastfeeding came naturally to me..it didnt hurt at all. And unlike most moms I breastfeed till my daughter was a toddler. She was sick ONCE during those times with a minor cold and I believe it helped make her a brighter baby (she can read at 3!). Her and I have the closest relationship..it was how we bonded after being apart and I believe I owe it all to breastfeeding. And shame on anyone who thinks its "yucky".
I understand some of us have to go back to work and its inconvenient but please girls, at least give it a try!

Study: women in their thirties make better mothers {ParentDish}

Nov 4th 2007 11:52AM I gave birth to my daughter Jordan when I was 37 years old. She is now 9 months. To some degree I wish I had started sooner..the hardest part for me was the drastic change to every aspect of my life..after 37 years of doing things one way, it was difficult to adjust to that change. Other than that..I realize being a Mom at this age was probably the best choice..I am mature enough to handle the responsiblity and to make wise choices for her and secure enough my life to give her a stable upbringing.

A Gym Just for Me {AOL Hot Searches}

Jun 23rd 2007 9:35AM I have been working out since I was 15 and am now 37. For many years I worked out at home before I became a fitness instructor. I recently had a baby and have now returned to working out at home. I believe I have everything in my home that I would need for a full body workout. For cardio I run outside..all that is required is my sneakers, a good sports bra and my walkman. For weight training I have one of those all in one machines..I can do leg curls, leg extensions, and use the preacher curl set up in reverse for a roman chair. I have free weights (12lbs, 15lbs, 30lbs) and body bars (12lbs & 18lbs) to do squats, bicep curls, tri extensions, etc. For abs I use a ball or do various crunches. Believe it or not, its the minimal equipment I need to get a full body workout and train body parts on different days. I know its difficult for many people to be motivated at home but here are some tips: crank up the tunes, buy yourself a good subscription to a fitness magazine that will inspire you (I chose Oxygen)and do your workout first thing in the AM before the day gets in the way! Good luck!
