Minute Makeover: Take Your Look From Cute to Sultry [Video] {Stylelist}
Jun 30th 2011 11:30AM I'm enjoying it now, but when I was fresh out of college constantly being mistaken for a highschooler was frustrating. As for the girl in the video...she's cute, but I'm not a blush fan.
Stepdaughter Disrespectful and Aggressive: What Can We Do? {ParentDish}
Nov 20th 2010 10:16AM It's possible she's this angry, because she's already being abused. We know very little about this girl, and it's all from the step mothers p.o.v. It's one thing to inforce steady discipline. It's another to "smack her around". The latter will just make her angrier.
'Whip My Hair' Video Arrives, Willow Smith Remains Awesome {PopEater}
Oct 19th 2010 12:10AM On one hand it's a well done video, and the little girl is cute. Despite the electronic help, she probably has a good voice. On the other hand, while most of the video was clean, the 'teacher' in the skin tight outfit gyrating across the floor was a bit much. The song was...thin, almost vapid. There seemed to be an effort to make the nine year old look a lot older than she is. She's naturally a pretty little girl, all the bling and make-up seemed unnecessary. The lip gems weirded me out a bit. Personally, I wouldn't let anyone who directed 'Poker Face' anywhere near my nine year old. Just hope Will and Jada will try to keep Willow well grounded off screen.
Zapped -- Why Your Technology Is (Really) Bad for Your Health {Lemondrop}
Oct 18th 2010 10:04AM I used to carry my cell in the same pocket until my leg started going numb. As an experiment I stopped keeping my phone on me. Within a month the numbness had gone away. It's fine to skeptical, but I think this woman is onto something.
The Rebound Relationship -- Why 'Damaged' Doesn't Mean 'Doomed' {Lemondrop}
Oct 4th 2010 10:00AM On one hand, I agree that yes, it has a lot more to due with state of mind and lack of delusions than the amount of time that has passed since the break up. However, a divorce does bring some legal issues into the situation, particularly if there are kids involved, you need to take their feelings into account as well as you're own.
My sister's in the middle of a divorce right now. She's waiting to get back on the dating train, because the reason she got involved with this jerk in the first place is that she allowed relationship to go too fast. And she knows her son needs time for the adjustment as well. Her soon to be ex isn't waiting. He's already moved in a female "roommate" with two kids of her own. My sis's step son (who lives with the ex) is having major anger issues, and this radical rearrangement of the adults in his life is probably why.
Beyond just being bad for his son, because he hooked up with someone else so fast (possibly even before my sister had moved out), her lawyer said it gives my sister standing to demand more during the divorce if she wishes. My sis is trying to be as amicable as possible, but she is absolutely going to use this as leverage to make sure she gets the custodial rights for her son set up the way she wants them. So that's something else to chew on.
Living With Parents: The Newlyweds' Guide {Shelterpop}
Oct 2nd 2010 10:35AM I know there are couples that do things like that. But I think you're misreading the article. Never said Chris moved into her apartment before the wedding. And it wasn't their poor planning that landed them at their parents, but a delay with the people who were going to rent to them. The fact they gave the money they had saved to their parents and grandparents instead of just keeping it, shows them to be thoughtful guests. There's a lot of 20 somethings who simply leach and don't give their parents anything. The weren't "unable" to pay rent. That just didn't seem practical since they'd already found a place they liked that could be ready at any time and didn't want to be trapped in another lease. Breaking a lease or making the people they'd promised to rent from wait on them would have been the irresponsible.
Glamour: The DOs and DON'Ts of Spring 2010 Fashion Trends {Stylelist}
Mar 25th 2010 1:08PM Pale, if that's your natural coloring, is healthier than a tan. A tan is simply a sign of sun damage to the skin. And remeber these girls are under bright stage lights that will wash them out.
If you're naturally dark or tan, that's beautiful too, but there's nothing wrong with pale.
Half the fashions in this article are pretty awful, though a few of the pieces have potential. I prefer to ignore trends and only worry about what looks good on my body. That way my clothes are good for more than a season.
What Movie(s) Have You Walked Out Of? {Cinematical}
Mar 5th 2010 10:05AM "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"....it wasn't in a theatre, just a screen set up at some highschool event, but my friend and I agreed it was tasteless and walked out. I've seen a few odd scenes here and there while scrolling through TV channels, but I've never seen anything that made me regret that decision.
I wish I had walked out of "Vanilla Sky"...I usually research films before I go see them, but I let my friends take me to that one blind. Never again.
Connecting the Dots: How Bad Off Is the Real Estate Market? {Housingwatch}
Mar 3rd 2010 3:07PM Maybe instead of SOMETHING DRAMATIC!!! we need to be a little patience? 1st, the housing market was grossly over inflated in the early 2000s. It's going to take a decade or so for most houses to catch up with their over inflated early 2000s value. There's no magic fix for that. 2nd, the homebuyers credit is not enough to allow people who aren't in a position to buy a house, to buy a house. Taking on more irresponsible debt is not going to dig us out of a hole created by irresponsible debt.
Construction crews may be wise to try to change their specialties. People are looking to save money, so reasonably priced repairs are going to be more desirable for many people than buying a new home.
One temporary solution people are turning to when having too much trouble selling their home is renting it. Renting comes with it's own headaches, but it may buy some home owners the time they need to let the market recover.
I won't say there aren't things that could be changed to help with the recovery, but anything done is going to take TIME to be effective.
It Wasn't a Mortgage Recession After All: So Why Don't We Feel Better? {Housingwatch}
Mar 2nd 2010 9:44AM No, the gas prices did not cause the current recession. However it would be in the best interest of everyone except the oil companies for us to seek geener, cheaper, renewable fuel sources.
The recession was caused by several things. It was never just a mortgage recession, though that was a part of it. Business/corporate/interbank loans were being handled just as poorly. When you have a debt based economy, it's going to collapse in every now and then.
Also the U.S. pumped billions and billions into a war that Bush started to get reelected and we're still trying to clean up that mess. You can't tell me that doesn't have some negative effect on the economy.
