I believe in keeping oneself pure until marriage, and it is impractical to think that putting marriage off in the prime sexual years of ones life is a good way to do that. I believe that young marriage is actually the way things should go, I also think that to be prepared for it people need to be in the company of good counsel, and listen to it's wisdom.

Feb 12th 2009 11:03AM I have been to sierra Leon, I have seen the need, and to say that what Salma did will have no lasting impact is purely ignorant. these people have nothing, literally nothing. Most of the time not even clothing. to give of herself in this way I can guarantee you that the mother of that child was more grateful than you could probably understand. saying that that baby was healthy is also ignorant because at one year that baby is still the size of a healthy five month old. publicity stunt or not that family will always remember the kindness showed to them by a healthy, rich american, woman, and be thankful.

I would like to also point out that for these people not having children isn't an option. First of all the are uneducated, and secondly have no access whatsoever to any form of birth control, not to mention that it is against many of their religions. And to quit having sex isn't an option either, the men of that country are not like the men of this country, sex is expected and demanded of a wife, and any woman who does not comply should be severely disciplined. Now obviously some of the husbands do love their wives enough to not beat them, but the majority believe that a woman is to comply to the needs and wishes of her husband without question.

Obviously I feel very strongly about these issues, and could continue to talk about them for a very long time, but I won't. All this is to say that I praise Salma for what she did, she saw a need she could directly fix, and she took care of it. That is what each and every one of us is called to do.
