How Many Cats Is Too Many? When Does Helping Become Hoarding? {Pawnation OLD}

Oct 6th 2010 4:14PM I find the numbers on the poll to be inaccurate. My Grandmother had 13 cats, all of which were well taken care of, groomed daily, had proper vet care, and all were spayed/neutered and declawed. When you'd walk into the home you'd NEVER know she had that many, because the house did not smell and they generally stayed away from strangers or were sleeping. Those cats were like her children- they kept her company after my Grandfather died. She was no hoarder however.

Her house was located by a feral cat colony and every year the cats in the colony would have kittens on her porch. Half of the time the kittens would be abandoned so she would take them in. She found homes for many, but the ones she couldn't (or chose to keep) she slowly integrated them into her house with the others. Her cats never fought or had any problems.

While she did have 13 cats I don't consider her actions hoarding at all. She had a reason for taking in those cats and did actively work to rehome ones she knew she could not keep. A hoarder to me is a person who has MANY more than 13 to the point where they cannot take care of them. There should have been an option on the poll for that..

Teacher Binds Girls' Hands and Feet to Teach About Slavery {ParentDish}

Dec 15th 2008 9:54PM I found this story rather interesting. I'm sixteen and a junior in high school. I know that these girls were a bit younger than me but I see nothing wrong with this at all. Teachers these days need to get creative to keep our attention. Students hate reading big long books from what I've seen and it's easier to just show them.

If this had happened in my class I think everybody would have been jumping to volunteer just cause it was something different. A couple names already come to mind of who I could see tied up and laughing their heads off under the tables. I think I would have volunteered as well! There's nothing wrong with this activity.

A couple weeks ago my teacher built a 'boat' out of chairs and had the entire class cram into the space between the two lines of chairs outlining the boat to show us how slaves were packed into small spaces on the slave ships. It really hit home experiencing it. Everybody was so crammed up close and laying on each other. It got us thinking about how horrible it must have been. It was hard enough to sit there crammed up with everybody the entire period let alone days! Sheesh people..let the teacher teach.
