Your hotel room safe: not as safe as you think {Gadling}

Sep 7th 2011 10:51AM Very simple solution. Anything critical (passport) carry on your person when you leave the room, and just wear the jewelry/wristwatch. If it is too ostentatious, some places you risk having it taken right off your person anyway. Ship any valuable purchases. If you are at events or the level of traveler that requires expensive jewelry, you are probably not staying at the type of hotel that has this problem. Unfortunately, many travelers treat every destination as if it is the same as their home, and do not believe they are obvious targets for crime. If your home is NYC, then you assume everyone has an angle and would be just waiting for you to drop something or look the other way, so you might function just fine!

SmackDown: Should Teachers Be Allowed to Blog About Their Students? {ParentDish}

Feb 15th 2011 5:46PM These kind of comments could be considered cyber-bullying, which gets a lot of attention in the school system, and for good reason. It is not appropriate for people in authority over children to talk in a manner they wouldnt tolerate from their own students. The internet is not secure, and once it is out there, it is out there forever and can be viewed by people it would never occur to you would see it. This is what college staff have been trying to drill into students regarding Facebook and other social media, which you can supposedly use filters to hide your antisocial media. I was told years ago to consider what you write on line as if it was on a postcard, or a party line. How can this woman's students trust her again, especially with the publicity this is getting? Young people have committed suicide over negative remarks. I can understand not liking the way some of the kids dress or behave, and venting about it, but the venom in those comments is pretty weird and judgmental. Does she grade them accordingly?

Fall TV Returning Shows Preview {AOL TV}

Sep 8th 2010 9:37AM We will miss Memphis Beat in this house. I agree that many of these listed shows are not worth their airtime, but they are catering to a different demographic, different commercials. Bottom line is money rather than what people actually like.

'Supersize' Families: The Joy of Having 8-Plus Kids {ParentDish}

May 18th 2010 12:16PM I am no longer going to post but appreciate reading the wide variety of comments from others. We are all just trying to get by in this world but some people do achieve some amazing things and I personally think raising children, whether one or ten, is a tough job and it is pretty amazing when they turn out well because so much is out of our control as parents. Some of the people commenting I would find very interesting to meet. Some others are quite unpleasant on line but I wonder if you would be the same way face to face. I will no longer post at this site.

'Supersize' Families: The Joy of Having 8-Plus Kids {ParentDish}

May 17th 2010 8:31PM I am very impressed at the attitude of the mothers quoted in this article. It is hard enough to raise one or two children - I admire them. It is financially crushing too, so they must work very hard or at least one parent has a well paying position outside the home. Health coverage is critical too. I don't understand the people who think it is a bad thing to have so many children. Perhaps it is jealousy, or the same trait that makes people decide which religion(political party/neighborhood) is the "wrong" one.

'Bones' - 'The Predator in the Pool' Recap {AOL TV}

Apr 23rd 2010 8:55PM One reason I enjoyed Bones was because it was a positive show; they always solve the crime, it always ended well, B&B are solidly fond of each other. The 100th episode spoiled several of these and the cases themselves have lost some zing. It is becoming more of a soap opera and too manipulative instead of leaving a positive vibe; where good triumphs evil, Booth and Brennan will always be there for each other, everyone else can see how much they care for each other but those silly kids, they just cant get it together. The other thing is the big deal made of how FBI agents cannot fraternize with consultants or suspects yet that is never discussed by the rational Brennan, and she completely dissembled in the 100th and Booth is behaving so differently. If he can so easily "move on" how will that convince her he wont just leave her for the next pretty face that catches his eye? Very disappointing trajectory. Hacker is homely and odd and Brennan is also suddenly regressing instead of being wordly and sexually adventurous. I would love to see Angela and Hodgins actually marry, B&B marry but be a crime fighting duo, and have the series grow that way. Be different! the current dynamic is like other shows that have tortured us along the way.

What Can I Get You Folks? - Phrasing Your Order {Slashfood}

Feb 10th 2010 5:34PM I found the construction "I'll do the..." odd, as if you were either going to cook the food or have sex with it, and the Chicago server who commented you order like a New Yorker may not have been expressing admiration. I was born and raised on the Bronx border and no matter the grammatical construction, politeness and appreciation for the effort and if the food was good, the food, in addition to kindness toward the company, was what mattered. The judgmental comments about the college friend said more about the author's personality than the friend's ordering technique. Plus 'What can I get you folks?" seems more like a fine diner than fine dining. If at a new restaurant I may say " I would like to try the..." If it is a dish I have had before at a familiar location I may say " I enjoyed the ... and would like to have that again tonight," then request any adjustments or make inquiries to different preparation politely. It also gives the server a chance to shine or provide extra attention (higher tip potential). I traveled the East Coast for business and this was appropriate at every level and made for some fun conversation besides.

Opinion: Suffering Kids Are Not Funny {ParentDish}

Dec 29th 2009 12:39PM To me it is more the fact that the parents went for the videocamera that makes me shake my head. And as at least one person pointed out, they could have achieved the same lesson by prying him out and then asking him what was he thinking? Shame and guilt should be reserved for things that deserve it, not everyday scrapes and mistakes. Sure its funny, but posting so much of a kid's life (or even an adult's) on line is actually pretty stupid and self-serving.

Eric Wood Injury Too Brutal for TV Replay {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Nov 23rd 2009 8:32AM my husband had a spiral tib-fib fracture and was hospitalized more than a week, including rehab; it took much more than 6 months recovery and even longer PT. This is a tough injury for someone whose legs are vital for his occupation. At least he will recover, unlike some with spinal injuries suffered on the field.
