Opinion: Proms Should Not Include Dates {ParentDish}

Mar 24th 2010 10:15PM I'm in college now, and I find your article awful. The students will either find a way around the rules or just not go. As for the 'problems' with dates, kids need to learn how to deal with stress and dissapointment because guess what, the real world is usually stressful and often dissapointing. I would say not teaching kids to deal with the negatives of life is the cruelest thing you can do to them. And if parents are worried about that 'special night', they need to get over themselves. I would think prom night would be better than after that first drunken greek party. When you over-control teens, they go wild in college, I've seen it happen.

Long story short, life is life, and life is never perfect. Deal with it. Learn from it. Be happy with the little things, like having fun at prom, date or not :)

Meet Sarah Killen, the One Person Conan O'Brien Is Following on Twitter {PopEater}

Mar 10th 2010 12:21PM What's funny is back in the day when people got married young the divorce rate was lower... hmmm... I think these days people just get married for the wrong reasons but have the personalities to leave the marriage rather than make it work or just deal with it (like in the past getting divorced would shame your family or something). I think she is being level-headed about all this. The simple things (like twizzlers) make her happy and she is kind (wanting to start a charity with her fame). I think they'll be fine.

Annoying Toys: The Gift of Giving Parents ... a Headache {ParentDish}

Dec 3rd 2009 9:10PM What makes me angry is not any of these toys, but that the author considers any pet "except a goldfish" a big responsibility. Dogs and cats may be expensive, but MOST people understand thier needs because they are mammals like us. Fish are cheap but that doesn't mean they don't deserve proper care. Things people do wrong:
- Too many fish in one tank. Goldfish bowls are actually too small for even one goldfish. 10 gallon is the minimum for healthy fish.
- Not treating the water. Most tap water has chemicals that make it safe for humans to drink but deady for a fish's gills. Treat your water.
- Not changing the water. Change a portion of the water each week. The ammonia that builds up from waste will kill fish. This is especially important when you first get the fish because bacteria that break down ammonia have not grown yet. Better yet, set up the tank on Thanksgiving, research how to get the good bacteria growing and go get fish right before Christmas.

Fish are living things too, please take proper care of them so that you can have a great pet for years to come!

Customers cry fowl after Boston Market fails to learn from chicken coupon mistake {WalletPop}

Nov 3rd 2009 12:13PM This is not Boston Market's fault. This deal was through thier VIP membership only so I doubt it was supposed to be spread all over the internet. Maybe from now on thier VIP coupons should say "members only" or something. I'm sure they are dealing with the fallout as well as they can. If you don't get your chicken, stop complaining. Life isn't about you getting what you want all the time.

Or you can go buy a pack of chicken breasts for a few dollars and cook them yourself. Potatos are super cheap and so is a box of cornbread mix. For something like $2-4 per person you have pretty much the same meal that taste much better and is much better for you. Sure, it's not $1, but I would rather put my effort into cooking than waiting and being angry with the results.

Missing a Child's Big Event - How Bad? {ParentDish}

Oct 28th 2009 10:41PM I'm in college so it wasn't that long ago that I had stuff for my parents to go to.

I think a lot of this advice is pretty stupid. Watching the play on video later and making it a big event is a great idea, but the hand kiss thing was too sickly sweet. How about a nice note in thier backpack?

Also, a lot of the stuff that parents get all hyped up about it stupid. Did you know that girls at my school wore PROM dresses to EIGHTH grade graduation? I decided on something 10 times simpler (and probably cheaper) than everyone else's. My dad went to the event and sat through all the pomp (as if graduating middle school takes much effort). Other parents were so into it for some reason. At the end of the night my dad and I were both laughing in the car about how stupid it all was.

Same with all the over invoved kids. I played flute in middle school but when I got to high school I picked art classes instead. I picked one sport and spent the rest of my time on schoolwork and working so that I could buy MYSELF a car. My dad didn't go to every swim meet, but he was there for some of them, what percentage I can't remember.

What I remember is that he always gave me a ride, he always asked me how it went, he always told me 'good job' when I did something well and he always worried about the things I NEEDED for me, and let me worry about the things I WANTED.

Teen 'CSI' Fan Nabs Locker Thief {Lemondrop}

Oct 28th 2009 10:52AM Please stop it with the tickle-me-plant. It's just a sensitive briar. They grow all over the ground in Houston. If you want one, go to an empty grass lot, look for puffy pink flowers, and take it home. If you don't live where they grow, buy it, but demand a cheap price because these plants aren't that special.

Taking a look at new in-flight food with a United Airlines executive chef {Gadling}

Oct 21st 2009 6:02PM Please stop putting numbers where letters should be.

PS - Before you assume I'm some geriatric griping about your fun, I'm a college student and sick of kids and thier out-of-phone texting.

Oct 21st 2009 5:56PM Personally I think these meals are pretty ridiculous. All the salads have peppers in them, the sandwhiches are all on 'fancy' bread and the snack boxes contain such a jumble of stuff you are bound to have people dissapointed that they paid money for something they only like half of. They should just give FREE crappy sandwhiches. I want a roll with turkey and cheese and maybe lettuce if I am lucky (apparently tomatoes are out). I want some generic chips so that I don't have to pay for the name brand and I want them FREE. If I am at a restaurant I will order artisan breads and marinated tomatoes, but on a plane it will be gross no matter what so just stick to cheap, simple meals. Maybe only these 'quality' meals for people who pay extra ahead of time.

Apple battles Woolworths over new logo {Daily Finance}

Oct 5th 2009 6:37PM This writer is asking all the wrong questions. It doesn't matter if Woolworths is planning to make phones and computers, thier logo looks COMPLETELY different. It looks more like a green pumpkin to me. Apple has no case here, so I hope they are just doing this to warn other companies that they will protect thier logo. Apple doesn't own every image of an apple in the world.

Men: What Women Really Think About Your Body {Personal Articles}

Sep 25th 2009 2:50PM I put movie stars and celebrity crushes in a whole different category.

I love my guy so much and we've been together so long, I'd love him no matter what. He does have a lot of attractive features though. I like that he's tall, taller than me by enough that it is obvious. There is some feeling of safety in that. He's plenty strong but you don't see it. I hate the look of bulgy muscles. I would also feel less safe around a hyper-built guy... I'd worry that other guys would try too hard to be tough around him and that would lead to fights or something. I like that his hair is short and clean cut. I hate those skaterboy cuts, they look gross and usually have a drug user connotation. He can't just show up for work all unshaven and smelly, but even outside of work he has great hygiene. Except for his toe nails... but he always cuts them when I remind him to. I would worry about his health if his wieght were too extreme in any direction. He has a little bit of a tummy going on, but I think it's kind of cute.
