Lead Singer of UK Pop Band Jumps to Death at Belgian Festival {Spinner}
Aug 23rd 2010 1:34PM Ah, the Jim Carroll Band. He died last year from a heart attack. Sad this guy took his own life from a human standpoint. No loss musically. I watched the video... horrible! Looked like an eighties brit pop revival, complete with faceless 'Moulin Rouge' outfits and bad dye-job hairdo's.
Testing the Cut-Out Swimsuit Trend in Hanover, New Hampshire {Stylelist}
Aug 22nd 2010 11:32AM So the point here was what? To see if people at a family-oriented pool would notice when a 50 year old woman wears something non-age appropriate? People noticed... shocking! Go back to the drawing board for your next story... and don't bring another crappy idea like this to your editor, or start applying for unemployment.
Ask the AKC Animal Behaviorist - My Dog Pulls Too Hard on His Leash {Pawnation OLD}
Jun 22nd 2010 6:44PM So many people I see have no idea how to properly walk a dog, the way that reinforces the "work" of the walk for the dog, as well as reinforcing who's in charge of who properly. First of all, get rid of these stupid retractable leashes, its a license for your dog to do whatever he/she wants, not what you want your dog to do. Leashes should be kept very short, so it is nearly directly above your dog. Next, you never let your dog get in front of you on a walk. That indicates to the dog that he/she is in charge, not you. As the saying goes, if you don't know who's in charge, it is most certainly not you.
When your dog gets ahead, you need to get your dog's attention by stopping, pulling up or to the side on the leash (never pulling back, as this will induce the dog to pull against you), or by using your leg (not kicking, mind you) to lean into the dog's side or hindquarters to break their attention from what they shouldn't be doing and have the focus come back to you. This is what dominant dogs do in packs to maintain the pecking order.
Meet the New 'Today' Film Critic, Cody Gifford {AOL TV}
Jun 16th 2010 8:49AM This kid will NEVER have credibility by hanging on to Mommy's dress. Every time I want to KLG a break, she does something creepier than the last time. EEWWW!!! This is just so gross! Cody has no credibility as a film reviewer, nor any reason to be on the Today show other than that's what his Mommy wanted for him. I don't know whether its a case of Kathie Lee pushing him into the limelight or a spoiled child who always gets his way or both, bu it is wretched. What's next, cooking segments with Cassidy?
Could you just see the looks on the producer's faces when this got pitched? I can see the eyes rolling into the backs of their heads now. And by the way, Gene Shallit is closer to four times Cody's age than merely twice his age.
I Gave My Baby the Wrong Name! {ParentDish}
Jun 7th 2010 11:13AM Shocking that you would give your child a wierd name and that people would mispronounce it. I don't know people are so insecure that they would saddle their child with a strange, hard to pronounce first name. Their are plenty of more traditional (read 'real') names that aren't all that hard to figure out. Perhaps your parents should have named you Norom.
Boy, 2, Smokes Two Packs a Day {ParentDish}
May 27th 2010 10:53AM As horrific as it is to watch this, the greater tragedy here is how in every culture, stupid finds stupid and procreates. Like a force of nature, like gravity attracting dust clouds in space to form celestial bodies, morons across the globe seem to always find each other and compound their collective stupidity with the act of conception.
This kid is not only a cigarette smoker, he is fat, spoiled, and entitled... surprised he isn't protesting in Greece right now! LOL!! I'd take the parents to task, but its clear they don't have the mental faculties to form thought worthy of this discussion. I'm thankful, at least, that they are in Sumatra, not in the US, though I know they have anserous dolts here as well.
Truth in GM's Advertising? {AOL Autos - Marketing}
May 11th 2010 10:36AM GM has now entered the realm of their newest owners, politicians and union leaders. It is easy to see how they would "spin" their situation and how it would be approved because politicians and union leaders are entrenched with "talking points" as it governs their days and their public appearances.
The biggest scandal is not that a company is misrepresenting their accomplishments, but rather that it is being done with the full (if not silent) approval of this administration. The whole bailout, specifically of the GM and Chrysler, is a sham. It is a sham because the money was "supposed" to be to help GM and Chrysler get back on solid financial ground, yet the government assured that this would never happen. How, you ask? Because the biggest problem the auto makers in this country have is that they pay too much to labor. Their cost structure is over-burdened with overblown wages for union workers who produce far too little to justify their wages, not to mention the pensions they pay to retired employees who did the same in their time. The government's response was not to let them file for bankruptcy, which would have allowed the companies to restructure their labor deals, but rather to let the fox into the hen house by making the very labor union that bilked these companies out of financial stability part-owners.
What a coupe for organized labor! The Obama administration, in lock-step with Democrats in Congress, knew that if they let automakers go into bankruptcy it would be a huge blow to their best buddies, the unions. So they made sure, with this move, that the labor unions would continue to be leeches not only to the auto companies, but now also to the American people as a whole, because they will surely have to come back to suckle at the public teet again, when they bankrupt these companies again.

Women to Begin Serving on Navy Submarines for the First Time {Politics Daily}
May 1st 2010 12:59PM Lynne: Please don't confuse the misguided social engineering experiment at some colleges with the rigors of service on a nuclear sub. The fact is that part of the order and discipline in any military unit is the ability to perform duties without question and without distraction. Having both men and women aboard ships which don't see daylight for several months at a time is a huge problem. Women and men will have relationships aboard, fights bourne of heartache and jealousy will occur, and shipmates will get pregnant, many of which will happen between people who are married to others onshore. All of these fray at the fabric of military service, distracts and endangers missions and crew, and gives those left at home an even greater sense of unease when their loved ones are at sea. To the last one in particular, the military has a vested interest in making sure that military families are as intact as possible and this decision puts that in peril. Tell me, ladies, do you want your men on subs knowing that there will be women on ship, sharing bunking quarters and facilities?
Down With Performance Reviews {AOL Jobs}
Apr 28th 2010 5:05PM This article completely misses the point. Performance reviews are done at companies for one and only one reason: to create a legitimate paper trail in order to defend the company against a lawsuit in the event of the firing of an employee. If you want to get rid of some of the worst corporate practices, whether it be performance reviews, stifling political correctness, ass covering, and the HR department as a whole, then limit stupid lawsuits.
People should be able to sue when they get run over at work, when it can be proven that someone used an employee as a pawn or an unjustified scapegoat, but an employer should have large sway over who they want to work at their company and who they don't. If you are good at what you do, largely you will land on your feet at another company. If you underperform, or ruin your good work(s) by being overbearing or a general pain in the *ss, then guess what, you lose.
