Jeans: Five Women's Favorite Pairs {Stylelist}
Nov 19th 2010 2:46PM Ok, I'll buy that those are different bodies for SHORT girls, but they don't include big girls or gals like me that are tall and sorta thin. Finding jeans that are long enough that have a decent rise (not too high or not too low) is very difficult. A lot of the "tall" brands assume that if you are long legged, you also have a really long stride, which puts them up WAY too high, or the "fashion" jeans that come in long require shaving to wear (fine for the younger set, but us middle agers don't really want quite THAT low of a rise). Thankfully Ann Taylor Loft has some GREAT long jeans...and I just recently found Levi's that are cut longer! Have always had to pay $75-$100 for jeans that truly fit (to the person that said buy jeans at Wal-Mart: ever tried to buy Wal-Mart jeans for a hard-to-fit person?? Uh-uh, ain't happening!), so was thrilled beyond measure to find the Levi's that actually fit well at Academy Sports for $29.99!!! YAHOO!!! :) (and finally, the cut was right for me, too!)
What Happens if You Decline a Full Body Scan? {AOL Travel News}
Nov 17th 2010 4:32PM While I personally have no problem being in a scanner, I can understand the hesitation of pregnant women, children (have heard they will NOT select children under 12, however, I would not like my 15 year old child to be scanned OR groped), and women of child-bearing age to the scan, when Muslim women (who are-according to THEIR law, substandard and disposable humans) will be exempt from this. Profiling is a necessity and all this "don't want to offend anyone" garbage has got to stop!!!
Someone recently sent me an internet "joke" about the "other" option - a bomb detonation booth - you go in, if you are carrying a bomb, it detonates and bam! Problem solved and we don't have to pay for a trial or incarceration! Sounds like the best of all worlds! Now wishing there was a prayer of it ever becoming real!
Luxist Giveaway: Flor Carpet Tiles {Luxist}
Nov 10th 2010 11:42AM I have actually seen a home with these tiles in them and they were amazing! The people used them as rugs in every room (different colors and combos) and I was so impressed! I had no idea where they bought them, but was very interested in getting some for my own home. What an ingenius idea and great way to "accessorize" your home! And when you get bored with it, just rearrage the tiles, instead of ditching it for a whole new rug. I'm off to shop for Flor tiles, now! :)
Mom Says Keeping Her Son Out of Class Photo is (Literally) Bad Form {ParentDish}
Nov 1st 2010 10:58AM Totally agree. Yearbooks ARE media, they are available for the general public to obtain, view and as a reference book long into the future. Either you don't mind your child's name put on the honor roll list in the paper/picture in the yearbook, or you do. Period. Yes, I am a parent, with multiple children, live in Texas...and I managed to read all the forms, check the correct boxes and understand that while some questions were "odd" for most families, there are plenty of children in MUCH different circumstances that need to have accomodations made for their living conditions. Our education system does the best that it can, especially given the fact that so many people choose NOT to parent their children in today's times...because it doesn't fit in with the current trend of being your child's best friend instead of setting rules, boundaries and consequences for bad choices/behaviors.
My Mother Hates My Baby Name {ParentDish}
Jan 18th 2010 5:44PM I'm chuckling because I have a niece, Mercedes, (she goes by Sadie) and a son, Connor - OR - who NEVER gets it spelled correctly!! Even on his awards from school, they put "ER" on it!! (he's in high school, now and it STILL happens!). :)
Mom and Daughter Botox Addicts {ParentDish}
May 26th 2009 11:38PM Wow, you are OH-SO-RIGHT! The mom looks horrible in that pic! If that is after 90K of plastic surgery, I'd ask for a refund!!! Plastic faces do NOT make you look younger, just more plastic!! Aging is a natural process and by taking care of yourself, you can help reduce the effects, but come on, looking like a plastic caricature of a human is just plain GROSS!!! I'd rather be old and wrinkly than plastic!
More People Using Internet to Hook Up ... As Friends {Lemondrop}
Jan 7th 2009 9:31AM MagPie, I couldn't have said it better. My group met in momsonline...a message board aol used to have for moms (duh). We all had kids the same age (at the time, kindergarten) and started with a group of about 20. We are down to 8, now...but the core 8 will be friends forever. Our kids are now juniors, we have had gatherings (not as many as we'd like, money is always an issue) and share in each other's joys, triumphs, sadness and woes. We've had kids graduate, buy homes, be hospitalized, etc... and I look at these ladies as my sisters always. I don't know if we would have become friends, had we met in "real life" first....but by getting to know each other online first, it opened the door for us to really get to know each other before we met and formed opinions based on appearances. I love my ladies, one and all, and can't imagine my life without them. :)
Our surreal nation: School district math snafu forces layoffs of math teachers {WalletPop}
Oct 20th 2008 2:33PM Hello??? Everything was fine under the Bush Administration until the democratic congress took it's rule 2 years ago!!! Nancy Pelosi has done WAY more to tear this country apart than Bush ever did. While NCLB is not a great plan, there is far more that was good in his adminstration, than bad.
George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over a year and a half ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 +
5) American's were buying new cars,taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!...
But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes--we got 'CHANGE' all right. Since 2006:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted;
2) Gasoline was over $4 a gallon!;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!
Sears won't issue refund for TV paid for but never delivered {WalletPop}
Apr 15th 2008 8:58PM We built a new home in 2004 and unfortunately, used all Kenmore Elite appliances, because the Sears Contract Sales department was able to get me great prices on the appliances I wanted. I bought a fridge, range/oven, microwave/venthood, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc... In the 4 years, I have already replaced the dishwasher (went bosch this time) and the microwave/venthood (original purchase price was almost 700.00). I sent Sears a letter just letting them know that while I did not expect them to "fix" my appliance problem, that I would not EVER purchase another Kenmore product, as buying Elite priced items, they should have lasted more than 2 1/2 years (which is when I had to replace those two items). A customer service rep called me and said if I could prove I had purchased them, they would give me a "free" service call. I faxed them the order confirmation sheet from the Contract Sales people and was told, "oh, you bought from Contract Sales, we can't do any service on THOSE appliances". Well, shoot-fire, isn't it still a freaking Sears appliance? Anyway, my LG stainless microwave/venthood, purchased on sale at Home Depot for 199.00 has lasted almost as long as my 700.00 stainless Sears one and looks just as good. My Bosch dishwasher was the same price as my Kenmore Elite one, has a similiar look, is MUCH quieter and runs great....no more doors falling open and taking out "passersby" when walking in the kitchen or controls getting stuck in the "off" position. Count me out of Sears.....
Hot Seat: Are Dems Destroying Each Other? {Politics Daily}
Apr 4th 2008 3:32PM I can't stand Hilary "I'll do anything to win, including leaving my lying, cheating husband in my bed" Clinton and would vote for Obama in a heartbeat just to have her lose. She will take our country to hell in a handbasket.
