Aug 20th 2010 5:40AM Every generation is the result of the one that raised them. The baby boomers were the result of the Depression-era, the Me-generation the result of the overdulgent 1950's,generation X from the Yuppies and so on. This group is the result of a combination of Me-generation and Baby-boomer. Baby Boomers have created a liberal nanny-state, and the Me's a self centered bunch.
So this is what you get. They went to school with "everyone is special, everyone gets a trophy"
However, you never have to ever decide "what you want to be when you grow up", as my Depression-era mother said. I have had many careers, not just jobs. The important thing is to be able to support yourself and cut the damn apron strings.

Apr 30th 2010 8:49AM Maryville Tn isnt exactly the end of the rural world. It has Maryville college, used to have a Levis plant ( until the union forced its closure- too much paid absenteeism and too high wages for the area) It is only 30 min from Knoxville. If this was a gov run free clinic- the lines would be longer, endless paperwork , if you qualified, they would let you see a doctor in 6 or 8 weeks.God Bless those doctors.

Feb 21st 2010 10:27PM Greg? Facts please- Names of the busineses who employed thousands that Wal-Mart drove out of business? I will take just one name that employed 500. What banks, sub prime lenders and how much of Fannie Mae does Wal-Mart own? It certainly could not be Walmart stock that caused the stock market crash- as their stock is up. Walmart pay is competitive for retail and no store pays minimum wage. Health insurance is, of course, available and affordable, at the nice discount that a huge company can negociate. I guess you have read every label on every product in every Walmart to claim that they all are made in China. "Support local".. how many people do Mom and Pop employ? 4, 5,? Benefits? Health insurance? High wages at Mom and Pop? I think not. Get a grip- lose the caps and for heaven's sake- learn how to puncuate a sentence.

Feb 21st 2010 10:15PM This is a great opportunity. Walmart is a huge multi-national corporation with opportunites galore for smart people with ambition. Most Walmart corporate executives started as hourlie people. Problem is no one wants to work their way up anymore. An entry level job is just that ENTRY- meaning to go in the door, what you do after that is up to you. But- now we have a culture that rewards failure and poor judgement ( see auto bailouts) Return to hard work anyone?

Nov 6th 2009 12:44PM Dont know what GMA is, however- they do not seem to have facts. There is plenty of sick time, health insurance at the best prices they can negociate. I am assuming GMA is a stooge of unions. The beef at Walmart is provided by Tyson foods. Look to see where they get it- Country of orgin label is on the product. Re the shrimp and seafood: Talk to the tree huggers who have forced regulation on US waters, cutting what the shrimpers and the fishermen can take. Not the retailers fault- they buy where it is available.

Nov 6th 2009 12:33PM Jennie-O is in MN, been in business since the 1940's and the turkeys are raised domestically. They are a subsidiary of Hormel Foods. On another note, all meat and produce must have a Country of Origin label. The labels are either on the product or on the rack at the store (mostly in produce)
On another note- why would anyone be upset at Chinese products? Who do you think is financing our huge deficit? They own us.

The economy- not his fault- Health care reform not going anywhere- not his fault. And I am sure the dog ate Rahm's homework- Bad bad boy BO.
