Burger King Apologizes for Ad Showing Hindu Goddess {Slashfood}

Jul 10th 2009 4:53AM
It is so hard to believe that BK keeps making these mistakes that one might begin to believe that they are doing this on purpose. Their ad agency (or ad department) would surely know how offensive these ads are and any staff person would know. They should be ashamed of themselves. An international boycott for about a month would teach them a lesson.

School Bans Pro-Life T-Shirt - Seventh Grader Sues {ParentDish}

Jul 9th 2009 4:14AM Children should not be allowed to wear political or religious or sexual tee shirts. A school aged chilld is not equipped to understand all of the rhetoric and ramifications of any of these topics. No matter how a child is raised, religious, in a politically astute home or whatever, they still have not lived long enough and have not had enough life experience to know whether they are pro or con these issues. The school was right to make the girl take off the tee shirt. The schools in my state have strict rules about students wearing tee shirts with messages and questionable pictures.

Michelle Obama, Daughters in London; Can't Keep Visit Secret {Politics Daily}

Jun 9th 2009 4:08PM Thank goodness the rest of us either personbally remember or remember studying the ISOLATION PERIOD IN American history. If you don't want President Obama to travel to different countries on governmental business whether it be to solidify friendships, prevent conflict, mediate between two other counties then you don't want us to be an active member of the world community. That is a part of his job and a part of his mission and vision for maintaining the rightful position of the US in world olitics. It is not like they are buying several seats on Delta Airlines, it costs the same on the presidetial airplane for one as for ten.
The bad things that are happening now are a result of the Bush administrations inability to think, plan and govern. It will take President Obama years to undo the mess Bush made both in the US and around the world. LET THE MAN DO HIS JOB.

Potent Quotables: Kanye's Book Rage {Spinner}

May 30th 2009 11:55PM What a fool. I believe that it is not that he does'nt read,it is probably because he CAN'T READ. I sure hope he does not go round promoting not reading to his constituency. Too many young boys and girls are probably waiting for an excuse to not study and perfect their reading skills-now they can be like Kanye.

Hairspray - Back with a Vengeance {Stylelist}

May 6th 2009 4:30AM I did not know that people had stopped using the hair spray from the good 'ol days. I do. The only thing I changed is from using the aerosol to using the pump. It is not possible to have thin or fine hair and not have hair spray to keep it from laying flat on your head.

Mismatched Moms and Daughters {Lemondrop}

May 6th 2009 4:14AM It was not until I grew up and got my own apartment that I started understanding who my mother was and the extent of what I had learned from her and how much I was like her. As a young child I was stuck to her like glue. I remember having my kitchen set right next to our kitchen and she would always give me scraps to cook on my play stove and I would watch her and my sister shell peas (peas came in the pod in those days). As a pre-teen and teen I did not like her and was always rude and disrespectful to her. But when I became an adult and got my own apartment I began to understand her and who she was and why. She was a brilliant mathmititian and economist. She never used paper and pencil--she figured everything in her head and she knew how to spend an penny and pinch a penny. At a different time and in a different world she would easily have been a CPA/Economist. Although I did not get her mathmatics ability, I got everything else. She is now 82 and has been afflicted with dementia (Alzheimers) for probably the last 12 years. Ten years ago she was very hard to get along with because I believe she realized something was wrong with her but did not know what it was, people were always whispering about her an she knew it, she was always being told that she was repeating herself, she was very paranoid. Today she is almost totally consumed, BUT she does not know it so she is just as happy as a lark in her daily routine. The one good thing is that she has no physical ailments, she is in very good health. Of course we had to get her a live in nurse aid who takes her out everyday, cooks for her, does her household chores, helps her bathe and dress, does the laundry and handles her incontinence. I am just sorry that the times would not allow her to have a professional career, but she began working for the state when I was about 12/13and was able to amass a very decent estate to the point where she was able to give her seven children those 5, 8 and 10 thousand dollar down payments on our homes and do the thing she liked the most-travel. She travelled to Europe and through the US and the Caribbean several times. So, she might not know who I am the next time I see her, but I will know who she is--she is the last elder still alive. And I had a multitude of aunts, uncles and older cousins on both her side and my fathers side. These days I think about her passing away and I pray tht it does not happen for many years as long as she is in good health and seems like she wants to continue on. I feel that the day she dies a huge part of me will die. I love my mother.

Michelle Obama's First 100 Fashion Days {Stylelist}

Apr 30th 2009 4:47AM Michelle Obama does not have a fashion style. She is allowing herself to be a fool for a handful of designers who do not have her best interest at heart. They are only concerned about getting publicity. I have only seen her look good in two outfits and they were the coat with matching dress. Otherwise she often looks like a fool who does not have the slightest idea how to dress like the First Lady of the United States of America. Some people say that she should be allowed to dress however she wants, but that is not the case when you are in that extremely important position. The clothing she wears is often too form fitting, shows too much of her body shape and yes, too much bare arms. It is just not correct protocol. She needs to remember that she will always be in the public eye and will always be meeting with or exposed to the leaders of most of the countries in the world and/or their wives. She needs to look at photos of past First Ladies just to get an idea of what is appropriate. I don't believe that she will see more than one or two bare arms. She really needs someone like Oprah Winfrey to be her fashion advisor. Oprah is no fashionista, but she understands her body and what looks good on it and what colors are complimentary to her skin color and what hairstyles bring out the best in her AND she knows politics and people enough to know that how you present yourself is very important. Michelle also needs to watch how she dresses her daughers. Spaghetti straps and tight fitting leggings are not appropriate for young girls let alone the daughters of the President of the United States of America. There are a multitude of clothing out there that are stylish and approprite for these young girls without them looking like what mom has on. Now, the hair. I know that long hair for Black women is an ego booster because most Black women do not naturally have long, flowing hair, but it does nto matter how long it is if it is fly away or unkempt. We know tht Michelles hair is almost always fly away and she would look better with some tight curls or a bob type style that will not be too affected by the wind and the girls would probably look better with ponytails. Finally, that Vogue magazine disaster. They posed her (and she agreed) in very provocative positions in a skin tight dress. Why could'nt she be seated up straight. Is she trying to attract men?
EVERYONE SHOULD WRITE TO OPRAH AND ASK HER TO HELP MICHELLE.

Bo is 'Crazy,' Says Michelle Obama {Blackvoices Main}

Apr 27th 2009 3:43AM I think that Michelle shows too much skin and too much of her figure and that her hair is too fly-away. I am sure she wants to dress however she pleases, but she needs to realize tht it is not about what she wants anymore. She is the wife of the President of the United States, the First Lady of the United States and there needs to be a large amount of decorem involved in what she wears and how she looks.
She is representing the United States, still one of the most influential, powerful countries in the world and she must look like tht. She needs to look over the photos of previous first ladies --you hardly ever see a naked arm, never see form fitting clothing, never see fly-away hair and never see provocative photos (such as her cover photo on People? magazine). Why did she have to wear a form fitting dress and lean forward in a provocative manner like she is a movie star or model? Any other first lady is either standing straight or sitting up straight in their photos, not trying to look sexy. OK Michelle we know that you are attractive and have a nice body but as a primary representative of the United States just show that stuff to your husband, not the whole world. Keep your hair curled and loaded with hair spray. That straight, fly away look (which is an ego thing for alot of Black women who have hair a little longer than most) looks a mess and ruins otherwise nice pictues.

This also goes for the girls. Spaghetti straps are not appropriate on young girls. Also, she needs to give those black fiber filled coats that the three of them wear back to the Salvation Army and begin wearing lighter colored cloth coats and jackets.

Finally, if she appears in a one piece or two piece swimsuit this summer, I think will truly faint. And that goes for the girls, too.

Puppy Saves Toddler's Life {ParentDish}

Apr 18th 2009 4:41AM Poor Ann--she was the first commentor and showed how uninformed she is about young children and young dogs. Seems like most of the responses are addressed to her. Ann, take heed, you know not of what you speak. Ann, you obviously have had no experience with children or puppies. At age 2 a childs brain is like a sponge, taking in everything. He might not be able to read, but after watching someone unlock the door a few times, I guarantee the kid knows how to do it. They just don't know the dangers of opening that door and going outside without mommy or daddy.

Ann reminds me of the article I read today on AOL about the girl who wanted her boyfriend to get rid of his beautiful dog, a Shiba Inu. He wanted to keep his dog, so this insane woman wrapped the dogs legs together and wrapped his snout and taped the poor thing UPSIDE DOWN to the refrigerator with masking tape (who would ever think of such a horrible thing to do). Ann you should not ever have any children or pets because you sound like an abuser.

Three Cheers for the happy ending to the story.

Looking for New Cookware? {AOL Hot Searches}

Apr 14th 2009 7:00AM I moved out of my family home in 1974. It was a major step for me and a big deal for my whole family. To celebrate, my parents bought me a set of Farberware stainless steel cookware and a set of Corningware casserole cookware. It was a big deal then because the two sets together cost around $200 which was more than my folks ever spent on anything. I still have every piece and every piece looks almost brand new. I highly recommend both brands.
