Aug 9th 2011 9:19PM A better way to clean the microwave is to squeeze the juice of a lemon into a small bowl of water. Heat on high until it boils, and leave the door closed for a few minutes to let the steam do its work. The lemon juice cuts through just about anything on the inside of the microwave, and all it takes is wiping it out with a damp paper towel or two. It will smell good, too.

I'd give my son and a friend brushes and a couple of coffee cans of water and have them "paint" the concrete front porch. It turned a darker color when wet, of course, and they really thought that they were doing something!

Apr 13th 2011 7:25PM Not long ago, I was standing behind a woman with two children in the checkout lane, and she didn't have enough left on her card to pay for everything in her basket. The checker removed from the total bill the items this woman wanted to leave out. Guess what--she gave back the vegetables and fruit and kept the frozen pizzas, two-liter bottles of soda, cookies, chips, etc. I know that we can't be the "police" and tell people what they can and can't eat and drink, but I do feel sorry for the children who live on junk.

Jan 19th 2011 3:49PM You ask, don't these girls have mothers? That's only half of the problem. The other question is how many of the boys getting them pregnant have *fathers*? If what I have read is even remotely true, there is a huge lack of positive male role models in the community these young people live in. The greatest influence on any child is the same sex parent, mothers for the girls, fathers for the boys. And until and unless there's positive parenting for both sexes, the problem of teenage pregnancy will continue.
