Interview: Son of Peanuts Creator Charles M. Schulz {ParentDish}
Apr 22nd 2011 2:30AM Writers are an eccentric bunch but the best among them serve society well. Charles M. Schulz was the father of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Pigpen, Peppermint Patty, and Shroeder. His animations became miniture icons in our culture. They bring to life elements of childhood character as familiar and comfortable as a favorite old sweater. We identify with Charlie Brown's gentle but often ill-fated attempts to do right. And who among us has not dreamed of being a flying ace like Snoopy?
Nightmares From the Sky: Flight Attendant Horror Stories {AOL Travel News}
Sep 30th 2010 9:56PM Why didn't we hear such horror stories in "the good old days?" Admittedly, one reason is because we didn't have the internet. But here are a few more ideas:
1. Physical comfort. Airplanes had spacious comfortable seating, blankets, pillows, and wide aisles--accessible whether or not food and beverages were being served.
2. Integrity. You paid for a ticket, that included your luggage, food, drinks, and on-time service.
3. Service. There were no "flight attendants" harping about safety. There were cute young stewardesses in short skirts who wanted to make good on their first job and find a husband. They did not burn out trying to make a career out of a job somewhere between hostess and waitress. They hustled their hienes, made people happy, enjoyed their youthful travel adventures--so they were happy. There were no peculiar men trying to perform womens' jobs.
4. Passengers. Flying was a special occassion and people dressed well. Airline prices were just expensive enough so that the people on board almost all showed mainstream. One did not hear "rap" (sic) music or see men wearing turbans.
Everybody--crew and passengers alike--were happier and had few horror stories.
Joe Niekro's Knuckler Lives Through Arm of 12-Year-Old Girl {Fanhouse Main}
May 4th 2010 9:04PM The insightful gentleman who pointed out that girls' sports would end if there were true equal opportunity--that is if the girls had to play with the boys--was absolutely correct.
What needs to be added is that young girls should not be encouraged to display maculine traits. They should be taught to cook, clean, nurse, nurture, and keep a home. That is the only way American society can reacheive the world emminence we enjoyed in the late 1940's through the early 1960's.
In the Senate and On the Left, Who Will Take Teddy's Place? (And in What Lifetime?) {Politics Daily}
Aug 26th 2009 5:24PM Like some others who opine here, I disagreed strongly with Mr. Kennedy's political positions on many, if not most, issues. Nonetheless, he was a man who dedicated most of his life to public service, advocating vigorously for causes he genuinely believed would improve the well being of our nation. He continued his leadership role in politics even after three of his brothers lost their lives in the service of their country (n.b., the first, Joe in World War II and Jack and Bobby by assasination). Despite doubts about his moral stature and intellect, he perservered in leading one of America's greatest political dynasties and becoming the liberal standard bearer in the Senate. While I didn't and still don't condone his ideas, and am aware of his moral foibles, there can be little doubt that his lifelong dedication to serving his country has earned him a significant and place in history. An honorable opponent, Ted Kennedy lived a worthy life, deserves a measure of respect, and has earned his eternal reward.
North Carolina Paying Teenage Girls Not to Procreate {Lemondrop}
Jun 27th 2009 3:39AM Tell her that if she gets pregnant that she wil: 1) Get the worst spanking of her life, and 2) Will have to carry the baby to term, go through labor and delivery, and then will have the baby taken away from her and put up for adoption (i.e., no infantacide/abortion; no bringing the baby up herself). Now that would send a powerful message to teen girls.
Then follow through with this. If this became the normative response to teen pregnancy, as it was in the first half of the 20th century, there would be very few teenage pregnancies. There would also be a lower dropout rate, fewer welfare Moms, lower social services costs, and no extra money being spent on special school expenses for pregnant teens.
Phil Spector Is Behind Bars, Wants His iPod {Spinner}
Jun 27th 2009 12:39AM He's a white man who had a distinguished career, not a real criminal. The least they can do is to let him serve his sentence with the civilized accouterments due a man of his position.

SC Republican Compares Michelle Obama to Escaped Gorilla {Politics Daily}
Jun 15th 2009 6:46PM What a morbid over-sensitivity to harmless humor. There is a long history of racial humor, ethnic humor, and religious humor that is rich, funny, and occassionally insightful. Until the Negros can learn to laugh at themselves, they will never truly escape the bonds of slavery.
Anna Rawson: LPGA No Longer Full of 'D*kes, Unattractive Females' {Fanhouse Golf Blog}
Feb 8th 2009 4:23PM Whatever happened to the old playground saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me." This is one person expressing an opinion. Feel free to disagree with her. Talk about it. Public commentary should enter one into the free market of ideas not subject one to ad hominym (spelling?) attacks.
