Clutter Cleaner's Matt Paxton: A Hero to the Hoarders {AOL Small Business}
Sep 12th 2010 10:01PM This article and Mr. Paxton himself were both realistic and respectful of this condition. I have family members and a good friend who struggle with this issue. Especially with the elderly, there is a lot of fear involved. The world has become so difficult to understand for the octogenarian who does not use technology; hoarding seems to be a means of keeping control. Yet that same person is unable to see how out-of-control circumstances become. Last summer we spent weeks trying to de-clutter a relative's home and it was stunning: grocery items from the 1970s; canned goods that had exploded in the back of the cabinet and simply left there until the burst contents dried up; baskets of"clean" laundry that had been sitting for years waiting to be folded which now had mice droppings throughout - in the bedroom (!) Yet we were seen as pushy and interfering for insisting on cleaning.

Life Too Good? Sell Your House. {Housingwatch}
Jan 30th 2010 6:56AM Whoa, hold on. I respect the decision to live more modestly, but I take note of the fact that their new "downsized" home is more than four times the size of my own house. And they had over three quarters of a million dollars in ONE kid's college fund??! Which has now been "replenished"??
Ever heard the term "conspicuous consumption"?
He Gave You What? Tales From the Gift-Giving Crypt {Lemondrop}
Dec 22nd 2009 12:30AM When my daughter was turning Sweet Sixteen, my mother got her an Eggxtractor...a plastic funnel-shaped thing that was intended to peel hardboiled eggs - "As seen on TV!" AND the box was marked, "Warning, eggs may explode."
Bride Sues Over Racy Photos Posted Online {Lemondrop}
Nov 18th 2009 6:53AM The image appears to be from a bridal lingerie fashion show. Look at the multiple viewers, the "runway" setup - the photography described in the article occurred in the dressing room prior to an actual wedding.
Boy Hero, 8, Saves Drowning Grandpa {ParentDish}
Sep 3rd 2009 9:40PM Grandpa fell in headfirst. When the boy jumped in he pulled on Grandpa's hair to bring his head above water ... Does this sound like Grandpa would have been able to grab onto a towel? Would he even have seen it?
The boy handled the situation in a quick, calm manner.GOOD JOB!
Terrible Prose Wins Hilarious Writing Contest {Lemondrop}
Jul 3rd 2009 12:27PM The runner-up sentence, while correct in all details of its mechanics and word choice, as well as its word choice, manages to convey vastly too much information in one well-packaged yet overly contrived construction, thereby leading the reader to a sense of overstuffed excess, reminiscent of the post-apoplectic haze that occurs during the lull between the clearing of the Thanksgiving banquet and the subsequent, although not too closely following, lavish presentation of perhaps as many as seven different kinds of pie, including three variations of apple.
This type of sentence is not a run-on. However, current English instructional materials label it a rambling sentence.
'American Idol' Apologizes to the South {AOL TV: American Idol}
Jan 30th 2009 7:18AM I saw it and thought it was ambiguous ... but the producers made a big deal out of the "threat" interpretation, with Paula saying "s that a threat?!", and a closeup on Simon saying under his breath "Is that a gun?!" etc. which CREATED a problem for the sake of luring viewers to the show.
I feel bad for the guy being put into that light.
Good News for Migraine Sufferers, Janet Jackson Fans {Lemondrop}
Nov 30th 2008 2:43AM 40+ years of vomitously intense "ice pick in the eye" pain several times a month, with the advance aura of emotional lability, difficulty focusing, sensitivity to light/sound, etc
What helps: Zomig, often ramped up with sudafed, caffeine, afrin, or advil(or some combo thereof); Midrin dulled the pain but usually did not help as much as Zomig. Being very careful about diet and regular sleep and not getting too overstressed; chiropractic care - these all keep my migraines at a life-is-still-worth-living level.
What does not help: percocet (just made me feel very very sick and depressed); maxalt (a new Rx, made me weepy, dizzy, and then much worse); amiltryptyline, which I've taken daily for a month or more to reduce the frequency but I think I've had as many or more.
BE AWARE: a fair percent of migraine sufferers have a cardio valve abnormality that can be corrected with surgery (This was discovered by accident, during heart research). I have not pursued this, as mine are at a tolerable level of frequency and the meds do help, but if you are losing your life to migraines, check with your doctor about this. It's called MVP.
Cocktail Party Politics: Explaining Away Palin's Inexperience {Lemondrop}
Oct 2nd 2008 10:55PM The Bible is not a literal account. The seven "days" are seven spans of time. The Genesis stories are metaphors of the human dilemmas that transcend time. And I do believe.
