Student Braves Controversy, Refuses to Recite Pledge {ParentDish}

Nov 17th 2009 10:40AM I served in the United States Marine Corps and love this country very much. Personally, I do stand when the flag is raised or lowered, I'll sing the Star Spangled Banner, and yes, I'll recite the Pledge, but that is my personal choice. In as much as I personally believe that the United States of America is the greatest country on earth, one of the things I fought for was the right of individuals to make a choice, including a young man who has proven that he has learned very well, is brave enough to take a stand, and his own words evidence he is not anti-American, but American supportive. I salute you young man. I do question exactly what it is the school hopes to accomplish. Is it conformity or individuality and a clear understanding of lessons learned. Don't talk about those of us who have served this country without understanding exactly what we served it for. The boy has demonstrated tollerence by defining his objection which whether we agree or not, is what America is all about. He's not being radical on anything and certainly doesn't present a threat to us. Where do we draw the line? If the teacher, a substitute told him to go jump off the bridge he referenced, would you still support the teacher or the little boy's perceived defiance?

First U.S. marijuana cafe opens for business in Portland {Daily Finance}

Nov 16th 2009 11:17AM WOW, what a great concept and a primo opportunity for nearby businesses. I wonder if any will increase the snacks and munchies they normally carry. Candy Bar, Chip, and Cookie sales have a real possibility to skyrocket now. Yea! Oh, because medical marijuana is also used for diabetics, they may want to include some sugar free snacks too. Don't bother with the Brownies though, we still like those specially made brownies.

I hope this works well because I'm certain that legalizing the "weed that turns into a flower in your mind" could be a saving grace in these tough economic times although it does mean tax revenue...why not. This is a positive that will change the status of those who have access, from having illnesses that have sometimes been feared to now being envied. Humm, go figure.

Party Hostess Horror Stories -- Guests From Hell {Lemondrop}

Oct 11th 2009 1:55AM There is a rather simple solution to guest nightmares. Keep a bottle of 180 proof Ever Clear on hand, when your guest gets cocky, fix them a drink. Mix 1 full shot of Ever Clear with enough Tequilla to mask the taste and top it with orange juice. Tell them it is a Tequilla Sunrise and toast them several times. Keep an eye on them and by the second drink, find them a nice corner to sleep in ... the party can go on undisrupted. Nighty night. Those the guest had been rude to will thank you for it and you just might add to the entertainment excitement for the evening. I know this sounds mean but when the alternative is a ruined party ... bet we've all got a little mean steak in us. There is another choice though, you could always make sure they had a good stiff drink and then convince them you need more beer. Give them $20 for the beer and as they leave, call the police...they'll appreciate the $20 in jail. Which ever method you decide to try, be sure to do it smiling...you don't want your other guests to think you're as creepy as the one you're trying to get rid of. Finally, if all else fail you could just shoot them I suppose.`

First Roller-Coaster Ride on the Mamba {ParentDish}

Sep 14th 2009 1:23PM He shouldn't be embarrassed about this experience considering it is his first time on a Roller Coaster. I think we've all done the same thing at least once. Thanks Mom for not catching me on camera and posting it. If anything, the two missing front teeth might come back to haunt him, but not until he is much older and dating.

Will Bloody Texting PSA Get The Message To Teens? {ParentDish}

Aug 25th 2009 7:18PM The video is grusome, but so are these types of accidents which do, unfortunately happen all too often as a result of texting, talking on the cell, and other distractions. We can preach until we are blue in the face without getting through. If the choice is to wait until it happens to them or let them see for themselves the reality of what can and does happen, let me gross them out now rather than have to receive the call later. This video not only should be shown to our young drivers, but should and must be shown to all. I think it was very realistic and truthful. how many time have we seen in the news the fact that the driver, after killing friends and unknowns from lack of attention is the one to survive. What is worse, a little scare tactic now or a lifetime of that memory being theirs? Again, this is a PSA that can and will save lives and therefore worth the effort. Thank You!

Phelps Calls Le Batard An 'Idiot' After Cutting His Interview Short {Fanhouse Backporch}

Sep 27th 2008 11:31AM With everything of "REAL" importance going on in the world, here we are discussing Michael Phelps, a swimmer and Dan Le Batard, a radio host. Although I fully agree with Phelps, Le Batard is an "idiot", the swimmer doesn't fall far from the radio jock tree as evidenced by Phelps' agreement to go on the show. No doubt he expected to gain something so who is the real idiot? I think both. The sum total of both Phelps and Le Batard, in the scope with the world importance is nothing more than the proverbial goose egg. The Arizona Diamondbacks should appreciate these two clowns because they have single handedly raised their value in the world picture and who would have thought that was possible?

Mental Floss Geo Challenge {Gadling}

Did Abdul invent assault story to avoid embarrassment? {AOL TV}

Apr 14th 2006 2:08PM I think Paula has proven herself to be a real mess. She can't handle her personal life, she looks like she's on drugs or alcohol constantly, and on American Idol, has proven she can't tell the truth. If it were up to her, they'd all be Idols. They all can't be the best...can they?
