Who hasn't dealt with the creeping guilt that comes with giving out a fake number, or the guilty creeps who come with giving out your real one? One woman is attempting to crack down on phone creepery with an ingenious invention: a dummy-phone-number generator. British mum Gill Kamel's Losemynumber creates a temporary number and forwards the call to your current cell phone. It is safe to hand out to strangers, and you can sleep safely in the knowledge that the guy you're giving it to doesn't have any your actual contact info.
If the guy turns out to be a psychopath or emoticon user, you cancel the temporary number, and create a fresh one. While this service is only in the U.K. right now, you can pretty much pull the same thing with number-forwarding services like Google Voice.
We all rest easier knowing that there are new options to cut weirdos out of our lives ... at least via the phone. We hope that somebody also invents a temporary fake Facebook generator, so Mark Zuckerberg will quit trying to friend us and refreshing and refreshing the page until we say yes.

While I suppose this is needed, what happened to "no, you can't have my number"?
