Twins -- they do everything together. After recent events that probably had producers salivating over the prospect of a "CSI: Denver," a little light has finally been shed on the bizarre double shooting that took the life of one twin sister and left another in critical condition following an apparent suicide pact. The two Australian 29-year-olds, Candice and Kristen Hermeler, were visiting Colorado for "cultural exchange," when they went to a gun range, shot some bullets for a while, then turned the guns on themselves and pulled the triggers. Police were left wondering who had shot whom, and even which twin was still alive, as one didn't survive and the other lay in critical condition in the hospital.
Now they know that Candice is the survivor, and that the shooting was the result of a suicide pact the two sisters had made. Adding more layers of weirdness to the incident are clips about the Columbine massacre that police found in their suitcases. They were a little obsessed, but it seems as though a repeat of the school shootings was never on their agenda.
Candice is still in the hospital, which is only natural after surviving a gunshot to the head, and her parents are flying in from Melbourne to be with her. She refuses to say why she and her sister decided to kill themselves, but we're guessing it has something to do with the fact that they were kind of bummed. Charges won't be pressed against Candice, since each only sister shot herself. Smart thinking. Aside from the whole suicide part, that is.

Needless to say, this story completely baffles me. Obviously, every suicide case is different but the odds of this actually happening are very slim. Not saying it didn’t, of course, but the likely-hood is just rare. Very rare. According to studies, twins in general are less likely to commit suicide compared to the rest of the population, mainly for reason of guilt of leaving the other one behind. And, in the case, to actually get both sisters to commit to the act is an enigma in its own. I, myself, am a twin suicide survivor, but trying to understand any of the logic or reasoning is just impossible. Granted, I am a fraternal twin and I was/am not suicidal but still. This story will definitely be in my thoughts for a while. The surviving twin will deal with more emotional/mental issues than anyone could impossibly imagine, and her life will never ever be the same.
Poor girl.
