Women -- we're not just pink books with shoes and lipstick on them anymore! The National Book Award winners have been announced, and many of them are ladies -- with real, live lady parts.
The winners this year included Jaimy Gordon, who won for fiction with her fourth novel "Lord of Misrule"; Patti Smith, aka the Godmother of Punk, won for her non-fiction work "Just Kids"; and Kathryn Erskine won Young People's Literature with "Mockingbird."
Pat Conroy, our favorite writer of self-indulgent molestations and Southerny rape, announced the National Book Award finalists on Oct. 13, which included, among others, 13 women -- the largest number of women finalists in a single year in NBA history.
We here at Lemondrop are very proud of the power of the pen. Mazel, ladies!
