And so it begins.Christina Hendricks is oft-celebrated for her gravity-defying curves, which have been described as everything from "Bottecellian," to "hourglass," "to "zaftig," to "boobalicious." Interviewers are too busy obsessing over her amazing figure to press her for "Mad Men" spoilers, and as gracious as she is about it all, we saw what was coming many months ago with this quote from her interview with New York Magazine:
"Anytime someone talks about your figure constantly, you get nervous, you get really self-conscious. I was working my butt off on the show, and then all anyone was talking about was my body."
Uh-oh, we thought.
At some point she's going to get tired of talking about her figure, and that's when everyone's going to turn on her. And so today's "anonymous source" story at the Daily Mail didn't surprise us. The headline "Christina Hendricks Diets to Shed Curves" only made us think one thing: They're Kate Winsletting her.
Back in the day, Kate was the celebrated curvy actress around town being praised by lady blogs and inspiring those of us who aren't Keira Knightley–skinny. The woman won an Oscar and still all we could talk about was her hips. Then she lost a few pounds, and we lost our collective international obsession with her body. She's still a celebrated actress, sure, but gone are the days when you could open a tabloid to find her killing a form-fitting dress plus some quote about how normally she eats and praise for her healthy body image.
We sincerely hope that Christina Hendricks isn't trying to get rid of all her curves, too (and we refuse to admit that the Daily Mail article has any merit to it), but is it possible that we love our voluptuous actresses so damned hard that we end up driving them into skinniness? As the Daily Mail says, "Christina has got sick of all the talk of her being the curviest woman in Hollywood. For her it basically meant she was being called fat."

While I don't watch the show, I do know who Christina Hendricks is, and I felt I must ask, Where you looking for the MOST hideous pic. of her that you could find? Lordy, she's not looking so good there. THEN AGAIN maybe that's because her dyed fried out hair isn't done, nor her makeup, and she's not all "pushed" up with undergarments-meaning-that's the way she REALLY looks. Trust me her Boobs don't look like they do on the show when the clothes come off. That's a soft body and you could play soccer with "'em" when they're not pushed up. That's just the way it is.

Wow I can only imagine what you look like darling! or are you perfect? I guarantee no one is following you around taking pictures for a reason. Some people seriously should think before they type.

Sweetie: so wrong! My breasts are in the same range and I could go braless even after having a baby and I'm very firm so I'm not sure what experience (if any) you have with big breasts. its usually those women who don't have them who leave the catty, jealous comments. Small and all sizes are beautiful as well as prone to falling. So don't stereotype, sweetie.

Christina looks great! Curves on a woman are much more pleasing to the eye than right angles!

It is nice that people are finally seeing larger women as beautiful...but trust me once the suck me in underwear come off, hollywood makeup and lights and photo editing...you would have a heavy woman that society would put down as being fat.....

FAT? Really? Not even close! Hendricks has beautiful sleek arms and a proportional small waist. WITH or without her Mad Men styling.

Daily Mail as your source? What a joke! Plus Kate Winslet has an entirely different body and had two kids. After a few kids, you can lose the hourglassy aspects and it is not by choice. Kate still looks healthy and curvy just more modestly than she did in the Titanic era.
If CHendricks is doing anything, which i doubt she is, she'll still retain her bodaciousness and most likely just pull in at the waist a bit. She does NOT need to lose anything and I think she knows it! Houglass figures that are that tall and buxom fluctuate and can change over time but it is not about "diet obsession" just life. I should know, I have one too.

I THINK THAT WOMAN IS AMAZING LOOKING SHE IS DEFINITELY NOT FAT MARILYN MONROE WOULD BE PROUD OF HER SAME SHAPE AS MARILYN
I HOPE PEOPLE WILL START THINKING THAT A FULL FIGURE DOES NOT MEAN FAT!!!
AS LONG AS SHE IS HEALTHLY. SHE DEFINITELY HAS IT ALL!
SKINNY ACTRESSES ARE NOT APPEALING ANYMORE. MEN LIKE ALITTLE MEAT ON THE BONE. MORE TO CHEW

Leave her alone! She looks beautiful and healthy! It's great to see a woman that looks like a woman and not a 14 year old boy!

Leave her alone. She's a real woman in the ful flower of her early maturity not an anorexic little girl. I'm not a "big boob man" but hers are just fine. "Real Women" rock.

Actually Connie, Hendricks is NOT the same shape as Monroe. Winslet and Scarlett Jo would be closer to Marilyn. Monroe was an hourglass but not nearly as busty as Hendricks (or as tall) who is closer in body type to a young Anita Ekberg. The fact she is tall AND very buxom and hourglassy is much more of threat to plastic fashion standards than say Salma Hayek who is very busty but very petite at five feet tall. Once you combine an Amazonian height with roller coaster curves the press gets catty as the threat to men and their issues about size become apparent.
As for "full figured" that has traditionally meant over weight not TRIM which is what Hendricks is and what Monroe was. Loren, Hendricks, a young Anita Ekberg were/are VERY fit women.

I'd bet that even Keira Knightley isn't that skinny unless she shoves her finger down her throat.
She says she's naturally thin, but a look at those protruding bones and methinks she lies.

Thanks so much for this article - and it makes me sad that so many people have fallen in with the crowd and gone on and on about Hendricks's body. I'm not a "Mad Men" watcher, so I've never sought out coverage on this woman, but it really annoys me that I've read tons of crap about her body and her looks and nothing about anything else.
For that matter, Keira Knightley, too - why is it necessary to talk about actresses in terms of their bodies, so much that the woman had to take out an ad pointing out that she was not anorexic? I know that part of these women's job is to be well dressed and interesting-looking, but it would be nice just once to read an article in which Christina Hendricks is featured and not come across the words breasts, hips, or curves.
