Known for his roles in "Pretty in Pink," "St. Elmo's Fire" and our personal favorite, "Mannequin," Andrew McCarthy was definitely a formative crush. Little did we know he was also an accomplished journalist. Swoon!

Andrew just nabbed this year's Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year award for his work (which has appeared in National Geographic and Bon Appetit, among other fancy publications).

"Word by word, paragraph by paragraph, entry by entry, McCarthy earns the gold the old-fashioned way -- by treating readers to excellent writing and poignant stories," judges said on SATWF.com.

They added, "Also, he is a total dreamboat and he looked so cute in the prom scene in that white tux that we wanted to die." Mmmmokay, they didn't ... but you know they were thinking it.
