Hooray for the Bridgeport Central High School cheerleaders, who are rallying to demand better uniforms. Rah, rah, ports metaphors! Etc.!The teens stepped up to the Bridgeport Board of Education and demanded larger tops, insisting that their midriff-baring shirts do not meet standards because of their navel-exposingness. Also, they are kind of embarrassed and don't want to have to stand in front of the whole student body looking like that. GOOD CALL.
For now, the district will be purchasing black bodysuits for the cheerleaders to wear under their uniforms, but replacing the tops altogether might not be such a bad idea. A recent study suggested that college cheerleaders who wore midriff-baring uniforms were more likely to develop an eating disorder.
Good job, girls, for sticking up for what you believe in and getting what you want without even having to form an intimidating human pyramid.
Today, cheerleader uniforms. Tomorrow, the WORLD!!!
