For most of the world, Fashion Week is about trend forecasting -- which colors are coming in again, whether high-necked blouses will be for more than just butter-churning, or whether visible nipples are the new black.

For us, it's about salivating, and not just about coats and cocktail dresses we will never get this close to again. No, we look at the parade of glorious gowns and wonder which ones are being auditioned for stylists and their celebrity clients.

Here, we pick five standout looks and imagine which actresses might be lucky enough to wear them once the year's fifth season -- awards season -- dawns anew.
The Dress: Oscar de la Renta's ode to ivy. We adore this and yearn for someone to have the guts to wear that pattern, in that glorious shade of green.

The Celebrity:
January Jones. We learned at the Emmys that Jones clearly isn't afraid of color, nor of drama. She simply missed the mark a bit with fit, styling and the fact that the dress she wore that evening looked like a collage of Solo cups from keg parties on some college student's wall. Time for an upgrade, Oscar-style. But only if she promises to do her hair properly. Please, January, go to the salon. We promise you'll appreciate the results.

The Dress: Marchesa. The intricate detail feels like the most thoughtful of homemade valentines, as if Georgina Chapman knows the identity of the eventual wearer and is crafting this as the thank-you note.
The Celebrity: Blake Lively. Now that she's in a bona fide grown-up movie, "The Town" -- which has a real shot at a Globe nod and one of the now-10 Best Picture Oscar slots -- Blake has been dialing down her let-it-all-hang-out style instincts, so something this ladylike, delicate and show-stopping would be perfect. Assuming she could actually sit down in it, of course.
The Dress: Halston. This nude, spangled frock is grown-up but still sexy -- and the belt makes it modern.
The Celebrity: Carey Mulligan. Carey is a fashion risk-taker, but often she sacrifices a proper fit for funkiness. This past season, we rarely saw her on the red carpet without commenting that she looked a bit droopy. This dress's one-shoulder cut and nifty, tiny gold belt should forestall any tailoring problems, while the slit paired with that bold print keeps it feeling fresh and not staid, all of which neatly marries her aesthetic to our wish list.
The Dress: Jason Wu. We're all over the romantic, fluffy texture of this dress's skirt and bodice. It's not just beautiful, it's also alluringly tactile.
The Celebrity: Chloe Sevigny. This "Big Love" star has amazing legs, and we love the idea of somebody who oozes modern cool wearing something so girly and twee -- not the least because Chloe often chooses to go "high-concept and befuddling," and we hate to frown.
The Dress: Monique Lhuillier. We loved that the color of this Lhuillier is an amalgam of tropical ocean hues, to the point where we feel like it should smell like sand and sunscreen and come with a daiquiri.
The Celebrity: Lea Michele. This dress feels like it matches Lea's sensibilities without being repetitive. Plus, whatever she wears has to stand up to the level of attention she commands now, but not usurp it, and we think this dress would do the job. Of course, if Lhuillier would prefer it to be worn by a couple of bloggers who usually do more Ruffles and sweatpants than ruffles and romance, then fine -- send it on over, girlfriend.
