Well, if "The Biggest Loser" or 9-to-Fine haven't been enough to motivate you to start shedding unwanted pounds, maybe Oshine the Obese Orangutan will. She's also going on a very public diet. (We feel you, monkey friend.)For 13 years, Oshine was kept as a pet in South Africa and passed the time lazing around and eating marshmallows (i.e., our typical Saturday afternoon). Unfortunately, Oshine didn't limit her sweets and laziness to Saturdays, Sad Days and SHUT UP I HAVE PMS snacks, and over the course of time grew to weigh 220 pounds. For the non-zoologists among us, that's twice as much as a female adult orangutan should weigh.
After a few years of planning, Monkey World in the U.K. managed to arrange travel arrangements for Oshine, and she now lives there, noshing on vegetables and exercising.
Eventually, if she gets in good enough shape and becomes personable (monkeyable?) enough, the folks at Monkey World will try to find her a mate so she can start planning a family of her own. It's like we always say: Orangutans, they're just like us, only they don't have a waxing lady.
