Women will go to drastic lengths to avoid having that fourth boy, even turning to superstition on occasion. But what if having a mini Suri Cruise was as simple as chowing down on burritos instead of snacking on bananas?According to a study by scientists from Masstricht University in Holland, a combination of diet and the timing of sex are key to determining whether your little tyke will be in pink or blue.
So, if you're after a little girl to live vicariously through, ditch sodium- and potassium-rich foods (like olives, pepperoni pizza and BLTs) for foods high in calcium and magnesium (like yogurt, hard cheese, spinach, tofu, almonds, nuts, broccoli and beans). The scientists also suggest that avoiding intercourse on days right before or after ovulation is more likely to give you a little lady.
The five-year-long study's results are based on 172 Western European women age 23 to 42, who had all given birth to boys previously. Of the 21 who stuck it through to the end and managed to handle the strict dietary requirements (hey, we'd have a hard time giving up smoked salmon and bread, too), 16 gave birth to daughters, making the success rate almost 80 percent.
As far as we know, men's diets have no effect on a baby's gender, so don't let him tell you that a steady diet of Burger King is going to make miracles happen.

It is the y and x chromosomes that determine the sex..the diet doesnt change that it simply changes the environment that the sperm travels in to get to the egg. Making it acid or vice versa. Which will make the sperm die off or make you more lubricated for the sperm to better travel up to the egg. So in those regards it can help you in achieving a certain sperm having better chances to get to the egg first. X or Y depending on what your hoping for.

Look this is dumb....it has nothing to do with the mom in the situation sex is determined by the male.....Females do not contain a Y chromosome, sperm determines whether or not it will be a male or female..diet has nothin to do with it god some people are really dumb for believing anything they see on the internet

This is ssooooooo idiotic
the only thing that determines sex is whether the dad gives the mom an X
which will make the kid XX = girl
or the Dad gives the mom a Y
which will make the kid XY =boy
idiotic pointless studies... !!!! dont we need a cure for cancer still !!!!
donate more funding for a legitimate cause !!!!!

It's all about changing your ph levels. If the woman has a high acidic ph, the more likely she will concieve a female. I had 3 girls back in the 80's. Read a study like this one that was done in Japan. I looked at my diet compared to my sisters, who all had boys. I had more of an acidic diet then they did. So, what the hay, I changed my diet for a few months and got my acidic ph levels down and I concieved a boy. 8 years later, had an unplanned pregnancy and concieved another female. I passed this info on to a few friends and it worked also for them.

The study is about the diet of the mother PRIOR to conception. Changes in diet change the quality and chemical makeup of a woman's cervical mucous, which in turn can provide a hostile or friendly enviroment for sperm. Male sperm (containing the Y chromosome) travel faster and die quicker. Female sperm (containing the X chromosome) travel slower but live longer. The pH balance of a woman's cervical is too acidic or not acidic enough, then that will effect which type of sperm are better equiped to actually make it to egg.
The study makes sense, though the sample is too small to be significant in terms of scientifiic data.

Everyone, look.
Yes, the man's sperm ultimately determines what gender a baby is. But before the baby can be concieved, the sperm has to travel in the woman's reproductive system to get to the egg, which has to be fertile. The female reproductive system is an extremely hostile place for a sperm to be. In addition to having a pH inhospitable to sperm, there are cells that actually seek out and attack the invading sperm. All this article is saying is that changing diet can change the chemistry of the female reproductive system and that in doing so, can make the environment more or less hostile to male vs female sperm (FYI, the female body is more hostile towards male sperm and fetuses naturally). That is all. Altering diet is not a magical silver bullet for a woman to choose her child's gender, it merely makes the odds better for concieving a boy or a girl. This is good science. This is simple, understandable science.
PS- Saying you are a nurse or a medical professional on the Internet as a basis for your response being taken as more valid is ridiculous. I mean, I'm the Surgeon General, so you have to trust me, right? Surgeon General doesn't work? Fine. I'm Batman.

I agree with you about saying you are a medical professional in your response. You look like even more of an idiot for being closed minded and the response shows you know nothing about what this study is showing. Yes the study isn't the most reliable but the basis behind it has some facts backing it up. The female sperm survive better in acidic environments is scientifically proven, but that doesn't mean that absoulutely no male sperm can survive in those conditions. All this is saying that making the females reproductive system more acidic will INCREASE your chance on having a girl NOT GUARANTEE it.

This is so silly... you can adopt a baby of either gender... why ruin your body forever and go through unspeakable pain?
Seriously, I'm curious...

Each parent only donates one sex chromosome. There is no XX or XY. Men donate an X or a Y chromosome, women donate only an X chromosome. X chromosome sperm that lead to a girl thrive in acidic conditions, whereas Y chromosome sperm thrive in alkaline conditions. There is scientific evidence to back up a the idea of a gender selection diet due to this, but it is not 100% because nothing is fool proof. So, yes, men do determine the sex of a baby, but the pH condition of a woman's vagina can select for certain sperm.
