If you've ever wondered if you were an egomaniac (not that you'd even wonder that if you actually were one), just ask yourself these three questions: 1) Do you obsessively update your status on Facebook?
2) Does your profile picture show you sticking out your lips, your chest and/or your butt?
3) Do you have more images of you by yourself than you with friends/family in your photo albums?
If you answered "yes" to all of these questions, then, congratulations -- you may be one of the many whose narcissistic tendencies are being magnified by social media, according to psychologists at York University in Toronto.
In a recent, totally unsurprising study, researchers found that narcissists use Facebook as a portal for obsessive self-promotion, calling it "a gateway for hundreds of shallow relationships and emotionally detached communication." The study noted that while while guys did most of their bragging in the "About Me" section, female Facebook narcissism tends to manifest as (sigh) posting lots and lots of photos of oneself.
Gals, take note: Sometimes a picture says a thousand words -- especially if that picture is of you in front of a mirror with a camera phone.

I'll make sure I use the term African American from not on whenever I constantly tell everyone all about the numberous times some people feel the need to lash out at others for absolutely no reason.

I don't think it is your choice of the word "black" (v.s. "African American") that has other people upset. It is the fact that you felt it necessary to mention the race of the perpetrator at all. The common feeling is that it shouldn't matter that the guy was black. The question could be raised that if the guy was white, would you think to mention that fact? Probably not. People get all touchy about stuff like this, especially when you put it in writing. It would be less of a big deal if you said it, in person, to someone equally as bigoted as you are.

Kyron (and whoever else you choose to be): --- If you are thinking faster than the rest of us, you are "manic." That is a psychiatric condition and there are meds for it. Take some. Till then, STFU. You are obnoxious and nothing more. Your opinions have no more relevance than snot.

I love FB. I have a very big extended family and 90% of my friends are my blood relatives and this has been a great way to keep in touch with each other no matter where we are. I spend time on it and I play some of the games too. Sometimes I could be doing something more constructive to be sure, but hey it is what it is and as long as I'm happy, who gives a care...God bless!

Julie,
Obviously the words racist & bigot are being twisted now to accuse anyone who accurately retells something that involves the bad behavior of African Americans.
If I told the same types of stories about Spanish, Chinese, Middleeaster, or European tourist or immigrants you would be feeling like a finger is being pointed at you.
Obviously each of you speaking up are taking what I said very personally,...far to personally for people who are trying to tell me, I should take any of that in stride.
I notice you are using the word "prejudist" any more. Would you like to know WHY? Because after so many crimes like the couple that happened to me, ...the term prejudist became obsolete.
Anyone who would rather avoid constant unprovoked problems, confrontations, aguments, vandalism, & thefts that so many have suffered from in the past few decades,....were no longer pre - judging anyone. They experienced enough ignorance that they became wiser & purposely avoid situations where they can be too easily victimized by total strangers for absolutely no reason.
Thanks for offering me this opportunity to voice my opinion on the subject. I appreciate it.

I'm sorry, but I'm one of these people that play games to the wee hours of the morning. Want to know why I do it? First, my kids are ASLEEP! Second, I have insomnia and cannot sleep. Excuse me for finding something to do to kill the time. Third.... just because someone is playing a game on facebook and posting for hours and hours, that doesn't mean they are literally in front of their pc that whole time. I am a stay at home mom. I can sit and use my computer, open a game, play (like farmville for example) get up and walk away and take care of my kids and leave the game running on my screen. Guess what, nothing happens to my game. I don't have to pause it, I don't lose a life, I don't have to start over. It's great! Not only that but now you can be signed in on your phones, you can even make it so that status updates are posted while accessing a different site. I look like I'm always logged in because I am logged into facebook using my AOL instant messenger. I never sign off my AOL instant messenger because I have cable internet and I forget to sign off. The only time I show that I'm offline is when I actually turn my computer off, which isn't all that often.

Facebook is your facebook. It Is Supposed to be about you, sort of like a journal so naturally, you're going to discuss yourself and show photos. Facebook allows you to actually see people you knew in elementary and high school. I was shocked to see people I knew dating all the back to elementary school and got to see what they look like nowadays and what they became.

They aren't using FB the way it should be used. It should be to learn more about others and share their own stories instead of telling us what drink they had that day. You already know about yourself; are you so empty that you have nothing to share and say that the only thing you can do is promote your own popularity on your own wall? If you had any real friends you wouldn't need Facebook; and FB is a bunch of people trying to ride off someone else's coat tail of wealth or life; even if they are a no income earning spouse. My god, with all that money, they still can't leave their own wall and it's all about THEM; and they have NOTHING to say. People want to go where the popularity already is and where they aren't needed. They do this in more extreme measures then just FB; they actually move to be closer to these people, and it doesn't work out, whatever. Like always, looking for the easy. They'll regret it later. No fool is going to call that a friend.

I have to admit that I must be a narcissist. However I have good reason. I have a killer smile, a body to die for, and well I'll stop and say the "particulars" are quite ample as well.

Julie,
Are you threatening me for speaking the truth? (By the way, I had a lot of typos in my 2nd to the last post; e.i., could, should have been couldn't, etc., on similar conjuction words.)
I don't understand what kind of a hole you think I'm digging deeper? But it obviously implies a threat! Why?!

Where are you getting a "threat" from? I said you are digging yourself into a hole. That means that everything you post makes you sound more and more like a garden-variety bigot. There is no threat intended and no threat implied.

If you think it's a threat, you just don't get it.

Another thing, don't you think it's a little weird when someone just has so much going for them? Instead of thinking about this, people just want to latch on to this, and they will never be needed there. They want to latch on to someone who knows NOTHING, that's why they have it all, because they aren't the BRAINS behind it!!!! As if they remember. People are so stupid. I had to disconnect it was so disturbing how narcissistic and stupid they are. AND as if anyone I had helped REMEMBERS, the ingrates...financially protecting them for life and I get no credit. Instead I look like the loser! Hasn't anyone learned anything from the housing catastrophy and state of the economy?

One of the replies to my original posts accused me of trying to start a racial rant!
That isn't what I was trying to do at all, but I am not going to let anyone call me a liar about anything.
And, quite honestly I think they have all turned it into a racial rant from their perspective. I have better thing to do than keep talking about "racial situations" that I could not even care less about.
If every African American in the U.S. thinks I hate them. Who cares! Not me! As far as I'm concerned saying that, is in NO WAY digging a hole that I need to worry about.
