We sincerely, truly never thought it would be possible, but it seems that Paul Blart has been replaced in our hearts by a new protector of shopping malls -- 16-year-old Kealey Oliver, a cheerleader from Oklahoma.Although she doesn't wear a misleading badge or ride a Segway, the high school junior managed to take down a mall thief, while wearing a strapless dress and without even hanging up on her mom. The thief came running toward her, like they do, so Kealey politely informed her mother she would be putting down the phone for a second, and tackled the bad guy, holding him down long enough for mall security to catch up and nab him.
All of this, and she only got a small scratch on her elbow and a bruise on her knee. We know one criminal who's going to have a reeeeeally hard time in jail. (Psssssst: it's the dude who got tackled by a high school cheerleader whilst trying to shoplift at a mall.)

Gimme an H-E-R-O-I-N-E! She certainly qualifies: a great example of today's youth, tomorrow's leaders!
Now she will probably be sued for scraping the "victim's" knee when he fell - she should have put a pillow down to protect him! And she will probably lose the lawsuit! After all, this is twenty-first century America, where the rights of the perpetrator are more important than the rights of the victims or those of bystanders who risk life and limb trying to stop crime.
I hope the coach lets her trade in her cheerleading uniform for a football player's uniform. Go, Kealey!

Very proud of our youth, brought tears to my eyes, good job cheerleaders, But that guy is so lucky it wasn't one of the woman wrestlers that stopped him, I know for a fact he would have been in a head lock or a double leg take down. Warm my heart story. YOU GO GIRL

Pretty gutsy move by Kealey Oliver. I also understand what she was saying in the interview about not being nervous or scared until after she had tackled the thief. I worked in a medium security as an addiction counselor. One day, one of the prisoners kicked and punched an officer after the officer had ordered the guards to put him in solitary. He ran away from the female guards. I walked closer to the officer who was on the ground bleeding and the prisoner came back. Without thinking, I pushed him up against the fence with my cane. (I am in my 60's.) Suddenly, I found myself down on the ground, my cane flying. But I stopped him long enough for the other guards to get there. I truly don't ever remember being nervous or scared during the whole thing. I just reacted, like the cheerleader did.

Priceless. Absolutely priceless. I was having kind of a rough week, but reading the story about the cheerleader taking down the thief, and reading how you "pin-caned" the rehab guy makes it a better week already. I will go to sleep with a smile on my face tonight :-) Beauty.

Good for her . How many times do you see someone running from the cops and everybody gets out of there way. Instead of cowering, kick the f00er in the nads or at least trip him so the cops can taze him.Nothing more satisfying than seeing some arogent scumbag get tazed for fighting cops.

Dan what makes you think she is large?

I am interested to know how large these two people were in terms of
height, weight and bone structures.( A l6 year old cheerleader type holding
down a thief? The article sounds a bit stretched. Like, how old was the
mall thief? how tall was he? was the mall thief a smaller person than
the cheerleader?? )

Being Irish & at me youthful age of 76, 16-year-old Kealey Oliver warms me heart. I married a lady like her nearly 50 years ago who dared to defy sexist stereotypes. No regrets at all, at all.

This is how you become a hero. Not because you think to be a hero but because you do the right thing at the right time being in the right place. How many others would have just turned their head and minded their own business. No wonder we don't hear the word hero much anymore.
