You'd be forgiven for having no clue that the fall 2010 couture collections were shown earlier this month in Paris. After all, unless you're ridiculously rich or famous, couture is like a fabulous party you'll never be attending.Considered the apex of fashion's artistry and technical wizardry (some of these dresses take over 1,500 hours to make), believe it or not, the couture catwalks dictate many of the trends that will eventually wind their way into your closets... or even onto your eyelids.
Click below to check out our top five picks of the craziest beauty trends sent down the runways ... and a few you just might spot us sporting.
1. Christian Dior

Flower power: Even those without a green thumb can take a cue from John Galliano's horticulture-inspired collection for Dior, where the designer used vivid colors and floral silhouettes to bring his vibrant garden of clothes to life. While wrapping yourself in cellophane (which models sported on their heads, courtesy of milliner Stephen Jones) like a freshly delivered bouquet of roses might be beyond your daily maintenance routine, you can always get into a flowery mood with a tulip-shaped updo, deep purple lips and bright, color-blocked eye shadow. Or, if you're feeling lazy, just spritz on some Marc Jacobs Daisy and uncork a bottle of rosé.
2. Valentino

Tiny dancers: Designers Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri are gearing the famed house of Valentino towards a younger customer, and their A/W 2010 collection showed plenty of thigh-high hemlines and girlie details. Little did they know that their artfully messy buns would really take us back in time to the days when tutus used to be legitimate daywear, when we were 6 years old and in ballet class. Our hair is never perfect now, but it was even messier in those days, complete with wispy strands falling in our face and hair on our crown that would never lie perfectly flat. We only wish our eyebrows could have looked this good back then.
3. Jantaminiau

Bowled over: Next time you screw up the cake you were trying to bake, don't despair -- the mixing bowl can always double as a hat, as seen on models at the Jantaminiau show. Just add super-sleek hair extensions, and you've updated Cousin It's signature look for the 21st (or even 22nd) century.
4. Jean-Paul Gaultier

Parisian chic: Jean-Paul Gaultier decided to make his French beauties larger than life by having models sport towering hairstyles with dramatic loops (mimicking the extravagant turbans others wore in their hair). Thick, false lashes and a cigarette complete zee sexy Parisian look, but be warned: With all that hairspray, smoking is definitely a fire hazard.
5. Chanel

Beauty and the beast: After we saw the centerpiece at the Chanel show -- an oversize lion perched on a giant pearl, we were expecting OTT hair and makeup to match, but Karl Lagerfeld's girls looked pretty much how we'd like to on a good beauty day. It was his groom's beauty moment that really caught our eye; looks like couture is now paying homage to the Furry movement.
Then again, this season couture had quite a few surprisingly wearable hair and beauty looks that would transition seamlessly (translation: without a professional by our sides) from catwalk to concrete. Here are our top four favorites that we'd love to try:
6. Elie Saab

Smoky eyes and perfect blow dries: We love the red-carpet-ready looks at Elie Saab, where the dramatic red and gold, embellishment-dripping gowns were finished off with gorgeous hair and makeup: a smoky eye and a sleek blowout. Now, if only we could master Karolina Kurkova's smoldering glare ...
7. Armani Privé

Golden arches: Even if you're terrible at applying eye makeup, smearing shadow into the inner corners of your eyes is easy enough for a child to master -- and it's an instant eye-catcher. We love the orange eye makeup and golden hair on the Armani Privé runway (the whole collection was, unsurprisingly, inspired by the color amber), which look sophisticated and modern at once. If you're more into the ice-queen look, this also works with silver or blue eye shadow.
8. Georges Chakra

French twist: OK, we admit this perfect updo is a little senior prom, but the dark lips take it from Jessica McClintock to tough girl instantly. Since the updo's slightly messy, it comes across as pretty in an "I didn't try too hard" kind of way.
9. Chanel

Bedhead: So good it had to be mentioned twice, the opulent golds and brocades in the Chanel collection were off-set with a relatively bare face, other than the attention-grabbing bloodred lip. But the hair is every girl's dream: totally mussed, with a just-got-out-of-bed-and-you-wish-you-did-what-I-did-last-night feel to it. Yes, we're jealous.
