Days after GLAAD started a petition to protest the exclusion of gay couples from a "Today" show wedding contest, NBC called the organization and has since opened the contest to all couples. To help gay marrieds-to-be play catch-up, they've also extended the wedding competition's deadline from July 7 to July 12. The contest winners will (much like the one Liz Lemon's ex-boyfriend won) be married on live TV. Initially, NBC did not allow same-sex entrants because "the couple must be able to be legally married in New York," but GLAAD argued that the show is awarding a "wedding celebration, not a marriage license," which would help squeeze gays under the umbrella of the rules. This is a great example of a squeaky wheel getting the grease of justice. "Today" show, we applaud you. (USA Today)Jul 9th 2010 By Emily Tan

It's sad that these activists groups have to interfere in everything that is none of their business. Shame on the Today show for changing things to gratify these perverts. They don't really want marriage, they just want to shove their sick lifestyle down everyone's throat.

I totally agree. Shame on the Today show. Let the gays do their own contest on the LOGO channel. They can feel well celebrated there. I won't follow the developments.

I don't care about gay marriage beyond making my minister or church host said unreligious (to me) wedding, but NBC shouldnt have buckled. It was a private contest held by a private company that they had no right to interfere with--dont be where you're not wanted! homosexuality may not be a choice but practising it is--dont inflict your views upon me! or NBC! NBC should be ashamed of themselves for bending backwards to keep an audience--ie business. However, on the same tip of the sword, why are we commenting on their business choices? being the devil's advocate is so hard.

HOW OUTRAGEOUS
IT NOT THAT THE GAY AND LESBIAN COMMUNITY WANT EQUAL RIGHTS.
THAT THEY CERTAINLY CAN HAVE.
But WHAT THEY WANT IS TO INSINUATE THEMSELVES INTO THE WORLD COMMNITY AND HAVE US NOT ONLY LEGITIMIZE THEIR BEHAVIOR BUT SANCTIFY IT LIKE THE MARRIAGE BETWEEN A MAN AND WOMAN, AS THEY WERE CREATED TO DO.
HOW SAD THAT THE TODAY SHOW AND THE WORLD NO LONGER HAS THE GUTS TO STAND UP FOR PROPER DECENT BEHAVIOR AND LIFE STYLES.
YOU HAVE ALLOWED THESE PEOPLE TO DRAG YOU INTO THE MUCK WITH THEM. FOR SHAME

Shame on NBC for not having any standards! You can count me as a FORMER NBC fan! A real marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN.
