I tasted the chocolate dipped bacon at the Strawberry Festival (Fla)
and it wasn't as icky as you might think. The key is high quality
bacon. But I would rather just have the bacon.

I grew up eating cocoa and biscuits when I went to Granny's. When I started cooking I found out it was basically chocolate pudding served over biscuits. People think I am crazy when I say we ate chocolate pudding over biscuits for breakfast. I have found out that a lot of people in the old days called it chocolate gravy. It is also good on waffles, over you sausage and to dip your bacon in so chocolate bacon doesn't sound that crazy. For those who say this is not good for you. I am almost 50 and I am still going strong so hasn't hurt me yet. Even ate it everyday during one of my pregnacy. Still only weighed 120 lbs at 5' 9" so it didn't hurt me then either. Just made my son into a chocoholic..

Deep Fred Twinties are old news. They have been around for maybe 4 years. There is also, and I might add quite yummy, deep fried pickles!

Please, these are nothing compared to some of the things that I've seen deep fried at the Arizona State Fair. Last year I saw deep friend cheesecake(Whole slices), tiramisu, twinkies, snickers, oreo cookies, and a few more that I can't remember!

And we wonder why so many of our youth and middle aged people have high blood pressure, high bad colesterol, fatty hearts, fatty mid bellies and rumps. Twinkies are bad enough eaten alone but to add chocolate, white, milk or dark with nuts makes and then try to diet to lose those 2400 calories give or take a few. State fairs are fun, but this stuff is ridiculous. Bacon is good and not bad for you if cooked right but dip it in chocolate, NO WAY. Why not put the whole pig on a spit and baste it in melted chocolate, through in some brown sugar and honey and gnaw away. Sick Sick Sick.......

OH come on! Do you eat EVERY day at the county fair? I agree with you that the American people are FAT (myself included) but to blame obesity on foods that you might eat 1 time a year is rediculous. Everything in moderation

I had the chocolate covered bacon last year at the Wisconsin fair. Not so good! Think it would have been better with thinner slices of bacon. I did have a deep fried PB&J sandwich which was delicious!! I'm not fond of anything involving twinkies

So, Gil, you don't like to indulge once in a while for some tasty fair food? See, these foods are NOT the blame for the physical shape of most of America today. The problem is people parking their fat asses in front of the computer, or tv, or both and doing absolutely NOTHING for exercise at all. It's real simple...eat less, move more. Follow that and you won't be obese. But, you can't blame carnival food. If you can't enjoy a deep fried Oreo once in a while, then you shouldn't go to the fair in the first place.

And stuff like this couldn't possibly be the reason for the overweight epidemic we see in the United States........

The state fair is once a year. There's nothing wrong with indulging once in a while. I dont think this stuff can be blamed for people being overweight. I think its more like too much dependence on fast food and convenience foods.

Well it's not like you are eating this twinkie every day or even every week. It's a once a year thing at the fair. Your heart isn't likely to explode. Sheesh, you must be fun at Thanksgiving and Holiday dinners. Do you throw yourself on the pumpkin pie to protect people while handing them a salad?
