Smallpox -- it's not just for destroying entire indigenous peoples now. You can also get it from sex! Yep, there's now a new terrifying science fact about getting down: You can catch your lover's vaccinations through sex. A woman in Washington state found she had contracted the vaccinia virus used in smallpox vaccines after having sexual contact with her boyfriend, a member of the military who had recently been vaccinated for the disease. She's one of five recent cases of women who have contracted the virus via sexual contact with military members. The woman's horrifying symptoms included ring-shaped vaginal swelling, sores and swollen lymph nodes. The vaccine isn't typically dangerous to healthy people, but can cause problems for those with compromised immune systems. (NYTimes)

When the military memeber got the vaccination he was told how to treat the small pox spot on his arm, It is not just a walk in shot and walk out vaccination. You are stabed 10 times with a sewing needle. And for the next 3 weeks you are not suppose to touch, scrach, wash(directly) or do anything to that spot to your arm. It is a LIVE virus, everyone who has got the vaccine has a scar about the size of a cigiret end from the virus making a boil on your arm. Bottom line. He knew. He was horny. she paid the price.

Vaccinia being the usually harmless virus that induces an immune response that happens to also kill smallpox.

well, it's not entirely false, because the woman DID contract an infection with (i'm guessing rather painful) symptoms. No, she might not have contracted the normal strain, however this article isn't entirely bullshit.
However, I don't see how this fact is news worthy. Anyone who understands simple biology should already know that every time you have sex, almost ALL of the viruses and bacteria that both partners have is exchanged.
