The Fourth of July is a lot like Halloween: There's a 50/50 chance that you'll either rock an outfit that's the-bomb.com, or wear one that just ... bombs.Sure, wearing our country's colors with pride is a required part of the festivities, but you want to avoid looking like an accidental version of Wonder Woman this Sunday. And with copious amounts of hot dogs and booze on the weekend's horizon, declaring your fashion "independence" with an over-the-top look won't give your packed social calendar the justice it deserves (not to mention your Facebook pics come Tuesday morning).
I tracked down two Washington, D.C.–based style experts to get the DL on just what makes or breaks an awesome Fourth of July outfit. Meet Katya and Carla, the fashion bloggers behind the style blog Spicy Candy DC, and listen in on our interview after the jump for their expert Independence Day fashion advice, plus tips on how to accessorize your patriotic style for less -- and how they're celebrating the country's 234th birthday like true Washingtonians.
So light up the grill, gear up for some Frisbee and grab a cold one. It's the official start of your stylish summer!
Happy Fourth of July!
Sammy Davis spends her days doing what any thrift-store nut loves most: finding beautiful vintage clothing to bring into the closets of the contemporary NYC girl through her company, Sammy Davis Vintage. When not rummaging through closets or in the racks of thrift stores across the Northeast, Sammy is talking to the camera, happily oversharing on Twitter or logging miles and keeping track of her health in her food and fitness journal. Got a question about fashion, health or just feeling good about life? Drop her a line at sammy@sammydvintage.com, and she'll hit you back ASAP.
